I am just throwing something out there which I have been thinking of for a while.

There are many requests like this one considering some customization options.

I think more customization is always good but there are of course 2 levels, user customization and server customization.

 

I would like to see an option for some server side customization to enable/disable features for all users at the same time.

For example the "upcoming" section, or "favorites" which could then be disabled server side so no user sees this.

 

Also that the server can set a certain lay-out (continue watching as first section, my media, etc.) which then would have every user see the sections in that order.

Perhaps this is annoying since some might want a different order, but it would help with when new users get this basic setup in case they get confused by the amount of information on screen (thinking about my parents for example).

I'm not sure this is possible seeing as things might get reset everytime when the server changes something and other more experienced users could get annoyed when they have set things up the way they like and it gets reset.

However I would love to have some more customization options  of deleting things from view, and not having to do this for each user but being able to set this up for myself, kids and parents in an easier way.

Maybe having this server sided as well as per user might cause trouble with eachother?

But while I got things set up properly for the first account, when adding a second you have to start all over with the lay-out/interface.

 

Was also thinking about server sided customization of the background (not just webversion CSS, since that won't change things in Emby Theatre, TV app, or android app).

For example a slider for the opacity of the background would be nice since I think the movie backgrounds (or tv show backgrounds for that matter) are often somewhat dark.

I get that that is what makes them backgrounds, but I would still like them to pop out a little more when looking at movie information and actors.

 

With the CSS this is possible to make it a bit brighter which I think is nice.

Sadly this does not translate to the other apps.

Category Customization

Okay finally had some time to take a few pictures as examples and edit them a bit.

First off to have the ability to set most of these settings server side to have a certain template/lay-out for all users and perhaps the option for the user to revert to this server sided lay-out with a default button in the options menu.

 

A good example is if you are in a library the top row shows lot's of options, being able to customize which ones are visible would be nice.

Server sided I would slim down most options to have an easier experience for my parents and the kids in the family (less for them to search through and mess with).

The other more tech-savy members (some of my brothers and friends) can go through their user settings and enable the options they want themselves:

 

 

 

 

Emby Theater out of Bounds

This seems to be an issue just for emby theater where I would use my mouse (others might use something different, but in general I would just use ET while working on something behind the PC at the same time.

I am hoping there is some sort of boundary solution the same as with the horizontal screen option where it uses the complete screen size and with the scroll button only goes from left to right.

In this case I would like it to be from top to bottom just with multiple rows of my content per section rather than 1 long row that goes beyond the screens boundaries.

 

 

 

Smart TV customization and General app settings

This one would also be server sided to create a general template for all users, and then user sided for the user to overwrite the template (on their account) if they prefer something different.

I for example would use Dutch settings server sided as template (again easy for Mom/Dad & The Kids), but I prefer to set my personal account to just use the English language.

At the same time I would like the option to have all those settings be used on every single app, so as to prevent like below that one app has English and the other Dutch.

As soon As I set one app to English in general settings, and I have a box that says (for example): "use current settings on all apps" I can check that box and save the settings for every app I start emby on.

 

 

Samsung Smart TV subtitles settings

Because the Samsung Smart TV has somewhat more limited options, I couldn't figure out if the black background is setting related or otherwise.

However this would also be nice to have as an option (I think user sided might suffice, as I think having it off makes the most sense?) because I would really like to have this gone on my Smart TV (HELP PLEASE)

 

 

Background Opacity Customization

Don't have a screenshot for this but should be obvious (I hope).

All the background movies or pictures are now rather dim/dark.

I think lot's of people like it this way because it is a background and it's purpose is not to shine in the front.

I personally however would like them brighter so a slider server sided (and maybe for each user, but it's running on my server so technically they just have to deal with it ) to change the brightness/opacity of the backgrounds would be nice.

 

Message of the Day (banner) and homepage customization!

Last but definitely not least, even more customization mainly server sided in this case.

Deleting Home/Favorite from the homepage and having that space used for a Admin/Server message so every user can see it every time they start any of their emby apps.

Mentioned this in someone else their topic as well since they requested something like this (banner/message of sorts).

Doesn't necessarily have to be that specific location, but was the only thing I could think of right now which is clearly visible for all users.

 

 

I hope most of these changes are worth it and possible!

Hi, I don't quite understand the out of bounds? It is simply scrolling horizontally.

 

Yes I agree that theme defaults on the server would be ideal.

Yeah sorry Luke that's correct just didn't know how to explain it or give it a proper term.

What I meant is that since in vertical screen option, you scroll downwards, having to going horizontal is somewhat annoying.

Therefor the items you want to reach cannot be scrolled towards unless your mouse can scroll horizontally and vertically.

Instead you have to pull the line with items to the left to get them on screen.

 

My suggestion was adding in vertical mode but without any items going out of the screen horizontally.

That way you can move the screen only vertically and still find all your items.

Edit: Just threw the sketch and weird paint edit into one picture

Basically it just allows to only scroll vertically.

Hey Luke, did you get what I meant with the "out of bounds" part after the edit?

Unsure if you saw it since it was an edit (and haven't had time to get back to it due to the hollidays )

Yup, I just posted my own wishlist item along these lines myself and erb pointed me over here to support your post too. My main issue right now being able to select how content is being presented from the server side. Some libraries I have painstakingly curated artwork for thumbnail views, but have not done any work for Poster or the other views because the media does not make sense to be presented that way. Similarly I may not need the titles or years to be displayed because it makes no sense to be displayed for a Library and would like to use that room to fit more content on screen. And I have tens if not hundreds of Libraries and folders to configure with these view settings across tens of devices, for tens of users. It would just be nice to be able to set how it should be presented to the user since I am the one who knows how the media has been setup to be presented.

 

For my wish, at the Library level, if viewing the Library's Show Advanced settings, if there was a section that had options to preset the presentation that would be great for Libraries to apply to all users. Would also like a way to set individual sub-folder views globally as well, but that might be a bit more work. Maybe in the meantime an option not shown on the mockup to push the selected Presentation settings to sub-folders. Anywho, would love to see something that allows us to control how the users see the content so they can see what is presentable and hide what is not. Thanks for the ears!
