Struggling to get going

Recommended Posts

I managed to get everything working on the local network, app on Roku & iPhone and so forth

Couldn't get external connections to work - so was troubleshooting this.

Now local connection also stopped - I get as far as selecting my server only to be told it can't be accessed.

What have I done to break the local connection and, before this broke, why was I not able to access it externally when it was working?

Have connect account and have signed up for premier

I expect you need more specific info so just let me know what

Thanks

Hi there, welcome. Is your Emby Server running on your Mac? Can you access it locally from your server machine?

So local connection now working again - no idea what I did - nothing probably

Have tried entering the remote ip on my phone - local WiFi off - finds my server on the Select Server screen but won't connect to it

Thanks for the quick reply

Sorry my last was not as clear as I thought

I had already seen the Wiki and been through that.

It recommends using Emby Connect - I think I am using that. At least- on my phone Wifi off - I enter app.emby.media - click Sign in with emby connect and enter my details

It goes to a screen showing my correct server name

I click on that - then connect and I get the 'Unable to connect message ...'

The Wiki says only read below if not using emby connect so I've not really read further.

It could be a port forwarding issue - Plex didn't need this but Emby probably different. If so any advice on port forwarding settings for an Asus 88U would be appreciated. Thanks

Seems to be solved

Advice for others:

Determine whether you have a Modem - Router configuration or Router only - I'm guessing most will be Modem - Router

If so, you need to port forward on BOTH modem and router

On you Modem, you will need to find the ip for the router (by looking at your LAN configuration) and port forward 8096 to this ip. Your modem instructions should help you do this

On the Router, forward 8096 to the ip for your server, you'll find this on the dashboard

Asus config: 8096 entered into port range and local port and BOTH protocol worked for me

Thanks
