Recorded TV Time Line

I watch the NFL football games by recording them and after about an hour I start watching.  After each play, I **skip** to the next play.  When I do this, that time line at the bottom of the screen pops up.  We NEED that time line, but it is really annoying with it popping up every minute or so.  Can there be a delay or something so that time line does not pop up so soon??  Pic attached to show what the time line I am referring to.

Edit:  I have the issue where my recordings are not complete when I start watching them.  I watched the Lions game until halftime, then exited out of the playback.  When I tried to start playing the recording again, it will not play.  This happens every time I watch football games.  I end up finishing watching my football games using the HDHomeRun app.  I record the games from Emby and the HDHomeRun DVR, just to make sure I record the games.

Also, about the timeline, the HDHomeRun app does the same thing, but their time line is thicker, BUT it is at the very bottom of the screen, so it is not noticeable (unless you want to see it) or aggravating.....

I don't really understand this request due to that first statement.

As you said, you need the timeline in order to know where you are seeking to.  Delaying it would make it impossible to see where you are as you seek.

Please post this as a separate issue in the Android TV forum.

If you could move the timeline closer to the bottom of the screen, it will be less noticable.  Thanks

Luke, the issue is the same I've mentioned previously.  When watching sports it's easy to hit the FF button quickly to advance 30 seconds which is almost perfect watching football to watch play to play (skipping the huddle, etc).  Problem is that you end up seeing the OSD popup all the time because of this.  It would be great to have an option to turn this off for FF/RW only.  This way the OSD would never appear unless we wanted it and still could access it via the other buttons like pause.

Second issue is probably the same I've mentioned before as well.  Trying to jump back into a game at half time is brutal if remux/transcoding is happening.  Even on a Shield TV you have to wait and wait and wait for it to remux the file to get caught up to say the 1:45 or 2:00 mark in the file.  We need:

1) The ability to direct play TS files.

2) Better remux/transcoding where the server skips remux/transcode the first part of the file and jumps to an approximate spot near the resume point so the video can restart in 5 secods vs 5 minutes (or longer).

This latter issue is brutal for sports when you try to watch multiple games switching back and forth.  I've resorted to installing Kodi on my Shield TV so I can use that with direct play but it has a couple issues with live recordings so it's not really the answer either (but better).

Cayars, that is exactly what I was trying to say, but in a much more coherent way.  It appears that you watch the NFL games the same way I do, and see the same issues.

I think, if they move the timeline to the bottom of the screen like the one from the HDHomeRun app, then that will solve the problem for me.

Now, I know why I can't continue to watch the game after halftime using your Emby DVR app, it is remuxing according to Cayars.

Solve that problem, and I can start using the Emby DVR exclusively.  Right now, I am using two different tuners tp record the same game, because I can't trust the Emby DVR at this point in time.  I record the **games** using both, the Emby and HDHR DVR's.  I was using my tvheadend DVR as a third **backup** , I really enjoy my football games and don't want to miss a recording.

Last item for me is closed captions for live and recorded TV streams.

Latchmor

@@Latchmor, @@Teddy, do you know how windows media center handles this?

Hi, if you are talking about the timeline part then (from memory, over a year since I used) the timeline in WMC pops up every time you skip forward or back. However I wouldn't have used it like above by skipping so much in one session so never really bothered me. I guess an option to hide it when using ff/rw/skip may be handy and only show it for play/pause maybe?

Now that I'm thinking about skipping, I miss typing 8 then skip to jump 8 x 30 secs (or whatever your skip is set to) I really liked this feature of WMC.

You could turn off the OSD if you wanted to in the options.

Why can’t you direct play ts files? We can in Europe

Depends on the device.  For example Android Mobile can direct play TS files since it uses MPV but Android TV using EXO can not.

So if you are using a flag ship device such as the Shield TV you can't direct play TS files.

PS Not that it matters but Plex can play TS files using EXO.

Yep, pretty common among football fans who watch many games on Saturday/Sunday.

I think, if they move the timeline to the bottom of the screen like the one from the HDHomeRun app, then that will solve the problem for me.

That too would also be beneficial. I'd prefer it all the way at the bottom or top (optional) for everything instead of up a bit from the bottom as that just covers up more of the media you are trying to watch.

Now, I know why I can't continue to watch the game after halftime using your Emby DVR app, it is remuxing according to Cayars.

It will eventially play, you just need to be very, very patient which neither of us are. I've waited over 10 minutes for it to catch up.

Emby DVR is all you should need to record.  I've not had the need to record via two different apps.  Recording is always fine.  It's the playback that can be an issue.  In the mean time if the device you use can install Kodi, try installing that.  Don't worry about any addons or anything.  Just use the "file system" view and you can playback your live recordings and Kodi remembers where you were which makes switching back and forth between games easier.

Closed Captions has been asked for by a lot of people so this is on the radar.

Unless I've missed something this is all specific to the OP post.

You missed my asking him to take his other issue to a different post apparently (which I also copied in the above message).  This feature request is about the time line display during seek.

Thanks.

Where is this option?  I never knew about it and couldn't find it just now.

Thanks.

Sorry, see it now. Sorry about that.  :(

Sorry can't answer this as I don't have a working WMC running anymore to look.  I'm actually not sure if it was an option of a registry edit but I used to use it without the OSD popup.  I also did the same thing with SageTV and created an option to turn this off for the same reason (sports).

Last night I binged watched 3 NFL games using the HDHomeRun app, and NEVER even noticed the timeline.  It was there, but at the bottom of the screen.
