LiveTV and the Guide

Love that people are getting LiveTV with the Roku added. It really sets up for a low cost solution to get TV to wherever you need/want with a centralized DVR. The only challenge I've had with the couple I've played with (PLEX and MB3) is that the guide is by channel instead of by time....Is that some sort of limitation with the capabilities of the Roku?

MB3 at least shows you what is currently playing on the channels so it is a bit better than the PLEX app, but browsing by time and then by channel seems to make more sense rather than channel first.

Just curious if there is a reason?

Unfortunately it is a limitation of the Roku. We can't really create a grid style like you can on the web. So the way we did it was basically the best way to display it considering the limitations of the Roku.

I thought in brightscript had a 2D API so you could layout your own grid if you wanted (been a long time since I've done any development so I may misunderstand how it works).

Yes you could theoretically build one from scratch. That isn't something that is going to happen anytime soon. Sorry.

Thanks...There any way to test a roku channel without having to put the roku in development mode (some sort of emulator on the PC)?
