Missing album cover, incorrect artist, playback error

I uploaded "So" by Peter Gabriel into my computer hard drive, then did an Emby library scan. It put the album into the Peter Gabriel folder along with the rest of his albums but, instead of the album cover, it showed a black square.

Also, when I click on it, the title of the album comes up fine at the top of the screen,and so do the the track listings on  the right, but the artist is listed on  the left as "Kate Bush".

Also, when I choose to playback a song, any song, on the album, I get the error message:" Playback Error ignored ok."

I then started going through several albums by several different artists in the Emby library on my Roku, and I'm suddenly getting this error message constantly.5bb3b7b7d5c61_20181002_1309161.jpg5bb3b7dee9307_20181002_1309381.jpg5bb3b81ed6e00_20181002_1310051.jpgy getting this playback error message for all of them so far.

Any help?

Is the song tagged correctly?  Does it have an embedded image?

Metadata for music comes from embedded tags and images - not the physical structure of the file system.

What shows on the web app?

No that it makes much difference, but what I had said was that the artist name was incorrect. The album title and all the songs are tagged correctly, from the original file on my hard drive, all the way through the Emby app on my computer, until it gets to the Roku Emby channel on my TV.

Under album artists it says "Peter Gabriel". You click on the icon and when it opens up, it still says "Peter Gabriel", with his album icons at the bottom. When  you click on the album "So", there, the artist is listed as Kate Bush. In fact, at the bottom of that page, it lists other albums in my collection "Kate Bush", actually really Peter Gabriel, appears on.

The image was not embedded by me, if that's what you're implying. It came with the files as they were downloaded from the CD onto my hard drive.

I would like to solve this problem,  however, that, as I said, isn't the major issue. The major issue is that I can't play any songs on any albums. I try and get the error message:

"Playback error."

"Ignored."

"ok."

That is the main reason I posted. Any help with both these issues, especially the second one, would be greatly appreciated. I see others have gotten the playback error message as well when trying to play audio files.

As I explained above, no. And, in the Emby PC app, the playback works fine. No playback error message instaed of the song playing. Just on the Emby Roku channel do I run into these problems.

ebar: I am running I assume the most recent version of the server, as I downloaded it very recently. If you need an exact number, you'll have to tell me where i can locate that information. Same goes for the app.

Happy2Play: I do not know what  you mean by Roku channel version number. Please explain in greater detail.

The server version is displayed on the very front of the server dashboard.

The app version is displayed in the upper right of the screen when in the settings page.

That is the server not the Roku app/channel.  On the Roku open the Emby channel and go to settings.

Ok. Accidentally posted this reply multiple times. Did a search on the maim forum page on how to delete posts and could not find any results. How do I delete these multiple posts on the same subject\t?

"That is the server not the Roku app/channel.  On the Roku open the Emby channel and go to settings."

ebr did not specify that. If there are two different settings pages, on on my computer and one on my Roku channel, no offense, but please make it clear which one you mean. Especially as the first answer, telling me where to find the server version, clearly meant the app on my computer.

On the Roku on the Emby channel, under settings, the version is listed as 3.0.97

"That is the server not the Roku app/channel."

I have looked, and looked, and looked. There is *no* server dashboard on the Roku Emby channel.

To be perfectly clear, ebr said I could find both the server version and the app version on the Emby web app on my computer, You can not. The first is on the web app on the computer, the second is on the Roku channel. They are not in  the same place, and, no offense, no, that  is not what that says. It is not made clear.

To me server version mean server and app version mean Roku.  But you listed you are on the stable/official release .97.

What file type is the music in?  As most of the content type issues have been resolved in the beta channel.

Happy2Play;

You sent me a message stating: "You still haven't listed you (sic) Emby Roku channel/app version number." You stated that I needed to..."On the Roku open the Emby channel and go to settings."

Before you sent this message, ebr sent me one, stating that "The app version is displayed in the upper right of the screen when in the settings page." (He also said the server version is displayed on the very front of the server dashboard, but more on that in a bit.)

I posted to the board how I had already gone to the location I was directed to to by ebr to find this number, ' the upper right of the screen when in the settings page.' (In Roku, by the way.)

I posted that the Emby Roku channel/app version number in that location as being 3.0.97.

I *did* go the the settings page on the Roku on the Emby channel/app. I did follow ebr's instructions. I *have* posted the version number I found there.

Also, ebr did not make clear that there were two different locations for discovering the server version number and the app version number.

No offense, and with all due respect, if you are going to help me, please do not tell me to do things I have already done, and shown I have done on the board reply sections. And please be more clear about where  to go if I need to report two different bits of information; if I need to go to two different  locations, one on my computer and the other on my Roku.

Finally, the type of file the music in is mp3. However,I do not see how that resolves my  issue, as the album being opened in the Roku channel, and the album title, and songs being listed or "tagged" are all correct, but the artist is being listed as "Kate Bush", instead of "Peter Gabriel."

*That* is what I am trying to solve.

Also, what about the persistent "playback error" message I and others have encountered when trying to play a song?

Thanks,

Hi.  The server version is displayed on the server configuration and the app version number is displayed in the app configuration.  Sorry I didn't make that more clear.

But, you've found them both now.

Sorry I didn't see you had edited a previous post.

As posted in other topics playback error/ignored were/are resolved in beta releases that have not made it to Roku official release.  3

As for your tagging issue, you would have to provide more information about the embedded metadata for the album since Kate Bush appears on that album (Don’t Give Up by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush ).

It is odd, since she appears in one song as a guest vocalist to have her listed as the artist responsible for the entire album. I will look into your suggestion.

After creating the album and tagging it I see there is a issue in the Album metadata.  Or should I say the tags the app is using.

@@ebr @@speechles the app is using the first listed artist in the album.nfo  instead of the albumartist tag?  After figuring this out I was able to find a couple other albums doing the same.  The album.nfo saves the artist alphabetically so they can not be used.

  <artist>Kate Bush</artist>
  <artist>Peter Gabriel</artist>
  <albumartist>Peter Gabriel</albumartist>

SG v3.0.111
BN displays properly.

Another example Shania Twain Greatest Hits showing Billy Currington in Roku ui.

  <artist>Billy Currington</artist>
  <artist>Mark McGrath</artist>
  <artist>Shania Twain</artist>
  <albumartist>Shania Twain</albumartist>

The app does not access any of that directly.  That all happens on the server.

However, the server changed how it references things fairly recently so the app probably just needs to be sure it is using IDs instead of Names.  Also, possible that somewhere in the app there is a request by "Artist" instead of "AlbumArtist".

if i.ArtistItems <> invalid
    if i.ArtistItems.count() > 0 then metaData.Artistname = i.artistItems[0].name
else if i.Artists <> invalid
    if i.Artists.count() > 0 then metaData.Artistname = i.arists[0]
end if
if i.AlbumArtist <> invalid and i.AlbumArtist <> ""
    metaData.Actors = i.AlbumArtist
else
    metaData.Actors = i.Artists[0]
end if

This is how blue neon does it. Prefer AlbumArtist over the first Artist.

You would have to provide more information about what exactly you mean by "embedded metadata". I am lech savvy, but not THAT tech savvy.

I CAN tell you  that the album title, and songs, and artists, are all listed *correctly* in  the original file in its' original location on my computer hard drive. It is somewhere along the way, traveling thrpugh the Emby app on the web and into the Emby channel on Roku, that they get messed up.

Oh, and by the way, I added the beta channel for Roku, whatever the hell that means, and whatever the hell that does,here by followup your link,,
