Problems with emby on Roku

Emby problems:

All the music seems to have transferred fine from my desktop PC to my Roku Express.

However on the TV screen all the artists are, instead of pictures of the artists, white silhouettes in rectangular boxes.

Then, some artists work and some artists don't in replaying.

All the artists, whether they work or not, instead of just starting to play when I click the play button, I get a message asking whether I want to add to queue or replace queue. I have to do this step in order to get the artist to play. I don't understand why they can't just start playing when I click the play button. I have to choose one or the other before I can play the artist. The play all feature does not seem to work. I have to go to the list of individual songs, play one song, then choose the next, etc etc etc.

Also, I clicked on one artist, for example, and a different artist name was listed and a box with their picture was at the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, instead of the artist listed on the main page.

Then, in the middle of the screen, were the words Play, instant music, and favorite. I clicked on play and nothing happened. No music. Instead, I got a error message that slid in from the right side of the screen in red that said "unable to determine items to play."

Any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated.

Hi.  Most of this sounds like your music may not be tagged well enough for Emby to properly decipher and organize it.  If you look at these items using the web app, are they different there?

instead of just starting to play when I click the play button, I get a message asking whether I want to add to queue or replace queue.

Once you have added something to the audio queue (e.g. by playing anything) then, when you ask to play something else, we aren't sure if you want to add this thing to the current queue or replace it, so we ask so you can do either one.

I should also mention the fact that when it comes to clicking add to queue or replace queue in order for any song to play, only clicking replace queue works. Add to queue does nothing.

Add to queue does nothing.

It is adding whatever you selected to the end of your audio queue.  If you go back to the audio player, you should see them there.

Ebry,

Yes. On my desktop PC screen my music library is completely different. It is absolutely fine, with pictures of the artist on all the folders. When I go to choose albums to play through Windows Media Player I can choose either individual songs to play one at a time or I can choose to play the whole album at once unlike emby.

Ebr,

First sorry about screwing up your name. Secondly, I still don't understand why there is a play all button which when I push does not play all the songs on the album. I do not understand why I have to choose add to queue or replace queue once I hit the play all button instead of the songs simply playing in order at that point. Not quite sure what you mean by if I go back to the audio player I will see them there. It seems to me you're saying I add songs to the queue individually one of the time and then I can play them all. Why can't I play them all from the very beginning by clicking the play all button once I enter the album. Why do I have to add them to a queue in the first place?

Ebr,

Besides not understanding why I can't just play all the songs on the album when I click the play all button, which makes no sense to me, I can also not see where, even if I were willing to put up with this, which I am not, where the audio player is that contain my queue of songs.

Every screen I go to to the very beginning to exit the channel contains icons from my music library but no " media player" along the lines of Windows Media Player interface, or the player for Apple iTunes, for example.

Hi.  It sounds like you are talking about using a Microsoft program to view and play your music here.

I'm talking about using our web app.  Enter the IP address of your emby server into a web browser and log in and look at your music there...

Hi,

No, you're incorrect. I did not utilize Windows Media Player to stream my music library to my Roku Express.

What I did was go to the Emby website by entering the address given, into the URL bar on my computer screen.

From there, I chose my music library from my hard drive and clicked upload. I then went to my Roku Express on my TV to the Emby Channel, and though the first song started fine, I have been experiencing the problems I have described to you since then. Can you assist me with any of the problems I have described? As I said, they are not on my PC'S part; they seem to be coming from Emby's side.

Also, I am currently on Emby's website looking at one of the album's I uploaded to my library.
There is a play button, which unlike the one on the Emby channel on the Roku Express, actually starts to play the track when pressed. However unlike the Emby channel on the Roku Express, there is no track listing.

Speaking of tracks, there are several albums, that, in the Emby library on the Emby website, as well as on the Emby channel on the Roku, list albums incorrectly.

For example, Fleetwood Mac's Rumours", came out in 1977 on one album, with a total of 11 tracks.

Emby lists it as two separate albums, one from 1975, one from the correct year, 1977, with a total of 9 tracks. Why two albums? Why an incorrect year?  Where are the missing two tracks that are on my PC hard drive?
Sorry to bother you with these problems, but I guess that's what these forums are for.
If anyone is out there reads this who has experience with Emby can help me, that would be most appreciated, as having the ability to stream music from my computer to my TV through the Roku Express is useless, if I keep getting these glitches and bugs.

Hi.  Can you please show me a screen shot of what you see in the web app for your music library?

I don't understand where you did this...

What address did you type in?  And where did you click "Upload"...?

I understand some of it. Yeah, playing by pressing PLAY on music artists directly on the music artist either isn't implemented, or doesn't have a method for it to get any playback info yet. This is normal. That part, known bug or WIP, will get addressed.

If instead, you press OK on the music artist, you can enter them and then peruse one of their albums discography that you happen to have. Then click OK on the album to load the playlist screen and wait for you to choose what to do... or.. click PLAY to generate a playlist and just start playing from the first item.

The other issue of missing artists, is you need to let the library scan run fully. After that, some aren't there. Run your music through mediamonkey any music fixing program. It can fix the id3 tags and correct alot of the display issues. Afterwards emby wont be so clumsy. If your music is clumsy, don't expect emby to be the one to clean up the mess. Clean your house. Then let emby into your house. A clean house makes for a happier emby.

Oddly enough, one of the issues I am having with  Emby, specifically the play all tracks button in the album folder, not working, suddenly, as if by magic, worked. Once. Then it was back to being frozen and unresponsive for the very next time. Whatever.

Oh, and, speechles, I DID let the library scan run fully. In fact, I let it run overnight, and didn't go to test it out on Roku until I saw on my PC screen that it was completely done scanning my files.

  • 3 weeks later...

This is resolved for the next beta. Pressing play directly on the music artist or pressing play on the music artist detail page.
