Hey

I mentioned it before, just doing it here again so it doesn't get lost :-)

I'd love to see that you don't have to reenter server name and credentials when updating to 3.1.xx from 3.0.34.

Thank you!

3.0.34 and 3.1.xx are two complete different major versions. You have to. And you also have to perform a library reset after the update.

Angelblue05 already said that it's possible. I just wasn't sure if she remembers the request as we talked about it in a non specific thread.

Everything is possible. But I see no benefit of it. You still have to perform a reset and rescan on all devices which are running the addon. Readding the server takes only a few seconds for a user.

yeah but if you give your friends and family long secure passwords (and don't allow them to change them) you're being flooded with support questions in such a situation :-)

You will also be flooded by questions why it doesn't sync anymore because they have to perform the reset. And the next question will be "and how do I do it?" :)

Honestly, if you gave Kodi + Emby (especially for the Beta channel) to non experienced users who cannot remember or write down their own passwords you signed a lifetime-maintainer-contract-for-free.

Just my 2 cts :)

Maybe you can explain @@sualfred or someone else @@Angelblue05 @@Luke later exactly how the update is done correctly and only in a few seconds?

The update of the server is simply installed over it, but since the database has a completely different structure, the database has to be completely re-read, doesn't it?

Or is the rescan of the bin libraries with the point "Update incl. the replacement of the meta data" reinstated on the basis of the old settings after the update of the emby server?

No matter how, it will surely take more than a few seconds. The process will surely work a few hours ahead based on the media. Setting some covers (if everything is local) will only take a few seconds. Whereby I also had to reset some movies and sets, because the plugin "Boxsets" doesn't find everything clean. For some movies there was also no poster available. But that really only took a few minutes.

The Cients then only press on database reset and reload in relation to Kodi. The users incl. the passwords are all still present or just set via the backup "Restore" again. The plugin "Emby for Kodi" still has the user data available if you choose not to delete the addonsettings during the reset.

Many greetings

Seger

I was talking about entering the user credentials and server adress.

By the way. The "reset database" function of the beta addon doesn't drop the user and server information.

Yes but between 3.0.34 and 3.1x, the file used went from data.txt to data.json. so I can just add a small convert step for that particular file.
