I think you are misunderstanding what this feature is. It is a sync, to send content to google drive from your emby server, not the other way around.

So first you need to add a media library to Emby Server. Then once you've done that, then you can right click on a media poster and sync it to google drive.

Hi.  The website does describe the feature as "Cloud Sync".  Once the content is synced, then apps that can best utilize the cloud content will stream from there.  Does that not satisfy what you need?

Hi Luke

Thanks you! I got the answer finally clear now.

So If I want to sync the whole library to Google Drive, which way is easier and faster?

Is that this will solve the playback slow transcoding issue?

Dont worry! you have to right click "sync" on your video in order to create the sync process to GDrive.

a new Emby version 3.6 can resolve cloud sync playback issue online. So just expect the new version.

Hi @@Luke ,

A few questions about how this works:

  1. I am looking at enabling a full sync of my local library with google drive using the synology app, to have a full backup of my NAS on google drive. Is there a way to use those files or do I have to make emby sync them to google drive?
  2. I want to use the local files on the NAS when streaming at home (same LAN) and use google drive when I'm outside and/or need a different resolution. But It is not clear to me how this would work exactly. For example: If I'm traveling and need to stream a movie, will it always use google drive or only when a different resolution is used?
  3. Will transcoding happen in the Emby server or will it use Google's "change format" feature?

This guide I found explains how to set things up, but it doesn't answer the questions above.

Do you mind giving me some more info about this?

Try syncing some movies and tv shows, basically a few of each content type that you need. Once you learn the synced folder structure, you might be able to copy existing files in there. Keep in mind we haven't tested this.

If the client app can direct play the google drive version, based on supported formats as well as all quality settings, then it will pick that version by default. You can choose the version you want to play on the detail screen.

Within Emby.
