Sammy 735
Did I miss something in the settings? In the HDHomeRun app the subtitle stream can be toggled on or off but not in Emby. Is there a setting somewhere for this? It should be in the app immediately before or during playback but it is not there. Luke 37022
can we look at an example? thanks.
Sammy 735
I will post some screengrabs later. The thing is in all other media there's a text bubble to select subtitles yet in live TV this bubble is non-existent. Even playback of previously recorded items has subtitles but maybe these are srt's from the subtitle downloader in Emby? Sammy 735
Okay.. I've tried every conceivable combination of settings (direct toggles on and off using both Exo and mpv) except External Player on my ShieldTV and no subtitles are displaying. A couple of logs sent from the ShieldTV about 8:40am PDT. Also tried Tizen and subtitles are on and working. Additionally, I checked out my gen 3 Roku 2. Subtitles on in main settings but not showing while playing LiveTV. Some photos attached along with both the server log and ffpmeg log. If the ffpmeg log isn't what it is supposed to be please let me know and I'll send another. Thanks! clarkss12 295
Pardon my intrusion into this thread, but I am not understanding this. It seems to imply that "closed captions" SHOULD work with LIVE TV streams??? If so, I am missing a whole lot........ I have subtitles on ripped movies, but nothing from Live streams. Lack of Closed Captions, is the only thing that keeps me from making this my primary TV watching app.
ebr 14904
Yeah, we are actually talking about closed captioning here which is different (technically) from subtitles.
Sammy 735
I realize that but it is a matter of semantics isn't it? The net end result is speech to text on screen. The closed captions are in the stream. HDHR native app shows them on my ShieldTV and even Emby does on Tizen as shown in the photo above. I too want to drop my extenders from WMC and use Emby for LiveTV but this issue is holding me back. SiliconDust's new Premium TV has brought this to the forefront for me. clarkss12 295
Yeah, we are actually talking about closed captioning here which is different (technically) from subtitles. Closed captions, or Subtitles, I have NEVER seen any of those for Live TV, under Android or Windows. I HAVE to use CC, and the lack, thereof, is holding me back from making this my primary app for viewing Live TV. I am in the same boat as Sammy. I NEED CC's. It is my understanding that Live TV DOES have CC or Subtitles, but I have NEVER seen it for Live TV.
Guest asrequested
I don't get presented with them in Theater, but they are present in the stream. roberthleeii 58
Sorry for the slightly off topic hijack: I have a couple of HDHomerun Prime tuners connected up to my emby. Can I get closed captioning on my live TV and recordings?
Luke 37022
Recordings generally yes, but closed captions are different than subtitles and we still have some work to do with them for live streams. thanks.

Thanks Luke! I'm wondering can I start a recording then wait some period of time to play it back to pick up the Closed Captions or does it need to complete recording first? Luke 37022
Currently it will likely need to be completed.

rikiwi 32
Just though I'd add my 2₵ worth. I can view Closed Captions while using the Web App in Chrome and Edge only. It does not work using Emby Theater. Of course in my country only about 4 channels provide the CC service. I'm using NextPVR back-end and the NPVR Plugin. I have 3 DVBT tuners in my server. This probably doesn't help much, just for information.
Sammy 735
I get closed captions in Samsung Tizen 2017 model. Not on the Shield TV or Roku.
