The new season of Better Call Saul begins August 6th.

This series is not currently in the recording schedule.

If I choose series recording for this the series (or any on AMC) recording settings are odd -

What I would expect to see since this is a New/Premiere episode - "Record" New Episodes only and a check in "Don't record episodes already in my library"

What I am seeing is - "Record" is set to All episodes and "Don't record episodes already in my library" is unchecked

Very odd - any series I choose for series recording on AMC does this, all the other channels I checked are behaving as expected.

Seems I saw something like this on the forums previously, can't seem to find it now though.

Just reporting what I am seeing. For the moment I will leave it set to all episodes and see what happens. Also if I do change those two settings then it decides they have already been recorded - gives the greyed out series record icon in the EPG.

These are just default settings, they don't change from one series to the next. You have to change them if that's what you want.

Does that answer your question?

I guess I am confused - Every other Series recording I set -- When it is a new episode the defaults are set to New Episodes Only and Do Not Record Episodes is checked.  When I Set a series Recording and it is a Repeat Episode -- I get All Episodes and Do Not Record Episodes is un-checked.

Except for AMC.

And If I change it to New Episodes Only and Don Not Record Episodes checked -- I gives me the greyed out series recording indicator so it isn't going to record anything.

This is default behavior??

Found another channel doing this WGN -- The Program Carter Premieres August 7th same issue with this one.

Seems like it is isolated to Premiere episodes - Found another TBS -- Wrecked Premieres on August 7th same issue with this one.

Is that default behavior for premeire type series/episodes??

Try refreshing the guide data and then creating a new series recording.

There is no change after a guide refresh.

I think it's something limited to the beta. Try removing your guide setup entirely, refreshing the guide, and then adding it back. thanks.

I did as you suggested. I am seeing the same behavior.

This is of course using XMLTV as provider.

I guess I should also add that while it does add the series recordings, it is choosing to record a later, repeat of the episode(s). So with Better Call Saul instead of recording the first broadcast @9pm it is choosing a repeat @11:11pm. I don't know what the expected behavior of the All Episodes option is, but there is no reason tuner wise for this to be happening.

Just amplifying what I am seeing.

It's probably due to the way that they're tagged in the xml data. Can you locate the xml data for those entries?

Can you try setting up a new series recording for a different show and see how that compares? Thanks.

I have done this....

If the series/episode is a new or repeat I get what I would consider "normal" behavior.

If the series/episode is a premiere then it is as I have described above - And what ever the logic is for this scenario it doesn't make sense to me, there should not be any rescheduling of a recording to a later time unless there is a reason like not enough tuners. Something is definitely wrong here.

Like I said I am just reporting what I am seeing, so you are aware.

For the moment my plan is just keep an eye on these recordings and do a cancel series and then do a series record when they are simply marked as "New".

Is that Premiere marked as new?

I believe the answer to that is yes. In his example above, both the premiere and new elements are present.

    <premiere>Season Premiere</premiere>
    <new />

From the sound of it, and kanipek can correct me if I am wrong, is that the presence of the premiere element is preventing the New flag from being considered/recognized.

I wish I knew what the issue was.

I have done some troubleshooting - I have rolled back to 3.6.0.1 and the problem persists. The newest version I have prior to that is 3.4.1.2 (I used to be better about keeping the older versions around) so I rolled back to 3.4.1.2 and removed then added my XMLTV source and the issue is gone.

I have used XMLTV for months to schedule many premiere type series/episodes without issue.

I have compared the current XMLTV file to one I have from March - the formatting/structure of the file is identical.

While on 3.6.0.2 I also edited the XMLTV file to remove the "Premiere" info for Better Call Saul (August 6th S04E01) - doing that resulted in it being identified as "new" and scheduling a series recording was the normal/anticipated behavior.

I have my suspicion on what is going on, but we'll let Luke identify the issue. Premiere is trumping New but is not considered to be new as well. Your experiment of removing Premiere only reinforces that.

They will track it down I am sure. Hopefully before the Fall TV season. Until then I will just keep an eye on these types of recordings.

So I just had another EPG update. I had Carter on WGN scheduled the 7th of August. Update added another showing of S01E01 on August 12th and Emby has chosen this airing as the one it will record.

Series settings are: All episodes only and Don't record episodes already in my library. That is not the expected behavior.

Just amplifying what I am seeing.

It's doing something similar as well for show that repeat as well.  Previously you would see an entry for 9pm and 2am (whatever) and not it doesn't list the multiple shows available.
