What i think Eduardo is trying to say is

For a new(copy) mp3 add two new artists which currently dont exist in your emby library

One to the AlbumArtist tag - "testing xxxx"

and one to Artist tag - "testing yyyy"

let emby scan the file

then try searching for "testing - xxxx" and "testing - yyyy"

"testing - xxxx" will fail

Yes, that's the idea!

It seems Emby still does not include "Album Artist" when searching.

Search for "Quartetto Italiano" still has no results whereas this is an album artist and is correctly listed on Album artist's page.

Please consider the following images:

Thanks Luke,

As you can see, this album artist is "Quartetto Italiano".

This info is on the Album artist field of each track.

Track artists are, though, the actual players (this ensemble has changed their line-up various times):
"Paolo Borciani, Elisa Pegreffi, Piero Farulli, Franco Rossi"

Searching for Quartetto Italiano retuns no results.

Please also consider rock bands such as Yes, Badfinger, Jefferson Starship, Velvet Underground, Rolling Stones and many others that in their lifespan changed members various times.
This is why both fields do exist.

I still cannot reproduce this. Using search I am able to find both album artists and track artists.

On that screen, when you click on Quartetto Italiano, what do you see there?

This is what I get from the link.

This is not the problem.

Did you try with an album artist who is not listed as any track artist?

It is really very simple: album artists wich are not listed as track artists will not appear on search results.

Simple as that.

I have tested it on four Emby environments and as already suggested, I can send you a bunch of MP3 files for you to reproduce.

I must admit I have been insisting on this issue.

Did a lot of tests.

I agree the issue does not happen on all albuns.

May I ask you to add the attached MP3 files to your library and search for "Quartetto Italiano"?

This music album has been tested on various environments and Emby will not bring results for the album artist ("Quartetto Italiano").

Thanks in advance,

Ok just had a play with these files

With your files as downloaded

Quartetto Italiano - appears on the Album Artists but not on Artists pages

And searching for Quartetto Italiano does not bring up any results.

I think this is that only Artists are included in the search results - NOT Album Artists which with your files is the only place Quartetto Italiano appears

Changes

So what i changed was to add Quartetto Italiano to the Artist field in the mp3's so it now reads - Paolo Borciani; Elisa Pegreffi; Piero Farulli; Franco Rossi;Quartetto Italiano

Did a refresh of all metadata for the album

And Quartetto Italiano is now on the Artists page

They are now found in a search

And Metadata is pulled from the web along with an image for Quartetto Italiano

So modify your Artist Tag field in the mp3's to include Quartetto Italiano and then refresh your album - and you should be good to go :)

@@Luke would have to comment on why Album Artists are not found in a search and why adding to the Artist tag - works when Quartetto Italiano is added but not when just in the AlbumArtist Tag field.

That I could do as a workaround to my own problem.

As a matter of fact I did it on some albuns.

But it would bring no leverage to Emby.

I am trying to contribute...

Thats fine - was just showing how it can work for you and anybody else who might have the same problems reading this in the future

Only Luke can say if this will be supported or not at some point

Unfortunately not so simple as I cannot reproduce, but I will keep an eye out for it. Thanks.

@@Luke,

Could you possibly try the files?

You see... Mr. @@PenkethBoy was able to reproduce the problem.

The Artists tab is only showing contributing artists, as opposed to all artists which would include album artists. That could always be changed although I imagine it's been that way for a long time @@ginjaninja, @@Vicpa
