Recordings that have no episode or season info don't show

Just discovered an issue where any official Emby app (web, Theater etc.) does not display any TV recordings that do not have specific season or episode number info in the file name. I was unaware of this happening as I use Kodi most of the time for playback and it displays these recordings (I think it considers them specials?).

My guess is that Schedules Direct is not providing this info so Emby is just naming the shows with the current date (Friends 07192018.ts for example).

Any workarounds?

They should be displaying every episode regardless of the name. Why do you feel they aren't? Can we please look at that? Thanks.

Here's an example using the web interface @@Luke. This is the same with any Emby app. Only Kodi lists the generically named episode.

One of my kids show "We Bare Bears" has 19 episodes recorded total. This is reflected correctly in the main screen badge count (see attached screenshot #1). When you go into the details screen where you would actually play episodes its only shows the 18 episodes that have season and episode numbers in the file name/folders. The loose episode that has only the recording date (We Bare Bears 2018_07_17_19_15_00 - Bunnies.mkv) is not listed anywhere in the Emby web interface nor any Emby app.

Try moving that episode into a season folder. We currently might have some issues if you mix the two methods within one single series.

Yeah as suspected that worked. Would it be possible to have Emby know that a recorded episode does not have season/episode info and automatically put it in a separate folder? Something like "specials" or something? I find that a lot of my kids shows or my wife cooking shows don't have season/episode indicators in the TV listing. I assume this is a Schedules Direct issue?

Another approach might be the Auto Organize? Would that properly identify these files with season/episode info based on the episode name and rename them correctly? If yes, I could have my recorded shows go to a different folder and have Auto Organize rename them and move them into place.

The thing is they are not always a special. Sometimes they are a daily episode, in which case we can find metadata based on the date.

Having said that, all episodes should still be showing up though. Does this still happen with 3.5.2?

I am on 3.5.2 and it's sort of half way fixed @@Luke.

I had an episode record last week that didnt have any season or episode info associated with it (is this in fact a Schedules Direct issue or Emby?). I can find the episode if I type in a search but it doesnt display on its own. So unless I knew to search for it, I would have no idea it was there.

Also still having the issue of episodes recording twice. This above example just happened to have recorded twice. See the attached screen shot.

Ive taken to just periodically scanning my recorded shows for rogue episodes and renaming/moving them as necessary but there should be some mechanism in place to handle this sort of thing I would think?

Using the screenshot in post #7 and same naming scheme.  Only issue I had/see is ***"Trisha's Southern Kitchen_2018_08_03" was in unknown season (unidentified), where "Trisha's Southern Kitchen_2018_08_04_10_30_00" was in season 12 (identified).  Everything displayed for me in this test.

I don't do Recordings so this is just a recreated content type TV library, if that makes any difference.

Tested on Windows if that makes a difference also.

***The unidentified show "Trisha's Southern Kitchen_2018_08_03" doesn't exist, it should be "Trisha's Southern Kitchen_2018_07_28", when changed it shows in Season 12.

What does the nfo file contain as this date doesn't exist on TVDB, it aired "2017-11-03"  So the recorded date/time would be a lookup issue.

I have never seen an “unknown season” icon in Emby when I’ve had date only episodes. Weird.

I assume it would be do to how Recorded TV writes the nfo files as I don't do Recorded TV.  Can you post nfo file of either of the examples you have shown above.

Most likely. Unfortunately when I identified, renamed and moved those episodes, I got rid of the nfo files. Next episode that records like that I’ll post.

Thanks Happy.

it shouldn't matter as once the recordings get saved they just become regular library items, as if you had imported the content via any other means.

I get these on several NEWS types shows that record off of CNN, MSNBC or Fox News.  I run them through a script to remove commercials, convert to MP4/AAC/H.264 and then move to the proper directory under my News TV library.

What happens is that some shows have no "imdb" type info to match against so when you keep several days worth of episodes they get lumped in the "unknown season" folder.
