Stream or Server Stopped after several hours - back to EPG

Following on @@Luke's response in a separate thread;

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/60539-live-tv-works-in-emby-in-chrome-but-not-emby-theater/?p=596345

I was watching a live TV channel last night for about 4 hours via the Android TV app when suddenly the stream stopped/crashed and the Emby app flipped back to the EPG.

Can this happen if the stream just stopped from the provider, or could this be a server issue perhaps?  I enabled Auto-loop per a suggestion from @@Luke and the viewing has been flawless since then, until this issue last night.

Immediately I tried to reconnect back to the server, but it was not responding.

That looks like it is just stalling from your provider as ffmpeg isn't reading anything.

It certainly was unreachable as I indicated, I'm just looking for why.

Does the loss of a stream typically cause the server to become unreachable, or did the stream fail because the Emby server failed?

I'm not confident that the minimal server specs can handle to load to be honest, so I'm trying to determine if I need new hardware or not.  Core 2 duo and 1GB RAM feels awfully light.

If you're wanting to transcode anything, that CPU is definitely light. What are your expectations?

The stream stopped, and it flipped me back to the EPG. I selected the program and channel again from the guide and a pop up advised that my server was unreachable “do you want to delete” the server connection.

@, I would like to record but due to the need for auto-loop that seems to not be possible for now.

What I would like is for the server to be able to handle the load if I watch live tv on 1 or possibly 2 apps at a time.

For one thing you will have to make sure that your provider supports at least two simultaneous streams because currently using the auto-loop setting will prevent the use of our stream sharing feature.

I do have 2 streams right now in my plan. Also, the stream had been running for 3-4 hours flawlessly and then just crashed.

Ok. Please make sure to attach complete log files as it is difficult to assist you otherwise. Thanks.

I did supply the log from when the event occurred (above). I don’t know how much time before/after is relevant so I pretty much just posted the event itself.

Due to the core 2 duo server constantly pausing today, I switched to the 8-core, 20GB RAM server today.  Admittedly that may introduce a whole new set of parameters.  I also started using my new Fire Stick today for viewing instead of the MyGica 1900.

However, I left the room with a stream running when I returned the screen was at the Fire Stick home screen.  This happened at about 6:45PM roughly.  Logs clearly indicate a crash.

I have changed my email address and the provider domain in the logs, but if you want that info I can DM it to you.

Sorry Luke I just realized - are you asking for all the logs in server directory?

I believe this is a problem on your provider's server. Well, either a problem, or at some point it just decides to cut you off. Try this. The next time this happens, take your provider's raw video url from the channel and put it in a browser. Please let me know the result of that. Thanks.

I will try that next time Luke but it draws me back to the same question; does the server crash when the feed dies? I wouldn’t think so because of the nature of these IPTV feeds right? They do die that’s why they’re less expensive.

If I pull the plug on my cable modem, would you expect Emby to crash?

No i would not expect Emby to crash, so yes this is a little odd, almost as if  the connection with the provider is remaining open but they're just not sending any data.

Hmmm. I’m not in much of a position to troubleshoot right now, but at the moment Emby can’t see my provider streams at all. Nothing connects via the guide. Or from the server via browser. (Channel not available or something)

If I use the TNT providers android tv app (super plain and simple, no EPG) directly, the streams work.

I rebooted the 8-core Emby windows server that couldn’t connect and Emby is now able to get streams just like the providers app.

I don’t know what to make of it all. Something seems very finicky.

If the Fire stick had returned to the Home screen rather than the EPG then that was an FTV app crash or fire stick restart which will have nothing to do with the server.

A few observations:

1)  I would expect your problems to be manageable now you have upgraded the server - old server was too lightweight

2) FATV app crashes are not unheard of and the Fire stick in particular compared to the fire TV is slightly underpowered.

3) It is not uncommon for users to loose IPTV streams after a random period of time and is down to the fragility of the internet from your router through your ISP to a major backbone and through to your IPTVs provider network.  Any break in that chain of more that a few secs can kill the stream.  Currently there is NO detection of this in emby and NO Auto-Restart capability (which there should be)
