neovisual 0
I've noticed through my own troubleshooting that this mostly occurs when the subtitles have ID #1 in the mkv container. But when the subtitle has ID #3 it displays just fine. While simply remuxing these files with this other order would fix the issue, I was wondering if there were some way to force the server to check all IDs for subtitles instead, since there is a fair number that would have to be remuxed. Luke 37060
where are they not displaying? we get this list from ffprobe/ffmpeg so you probably want to run your files through that and see what it produces.
neovisual 0
They display fine in the menu when selecting them for playback, with the correct names and everything like that, so I think the probing works. However, they do not display when the video is actually played on the TV.

gcw07 347
Is the audio and subtitles menu item showing up on the details page?
Tikuf 663
This looks like that bug i found ages ago Luke but never solved. I will revist.
neovisual 0
Is the audio and subtitles menu item showing up on the details page? It will show up as long as I don't have the folder type set to 'Home Videos'. I can see the subtitles and they are named correctly and everything, but when I choose them depending on how the mkv is merged they will display or not display when the video is played back. Yeah, home video at the moment is only supported for basic playback. For movies and other items though, you are seeing the menu item, it just isn't working properly when you select it right? neovisual 0
Correct. It displays the correct name and everything, but when I go to watch the actual show the subtitles won't display on the video.

Tikuf 663
If you have your subs at position 1 there is an easy fix with ffmpeg codec copy I have been trying to track down the reason that subs don't work in pos 1 (0) on and off for a couple of months (not looking really hard I must say because I thought it would be a fringe situation) I have it back on my list now but I also have a few things ahead of it. neovisual 0
Admittedly it probably is a fringe situation, my sister is deaf so everything needs to have subtitles. You mentioned an easy fix with "ffmpeg codec copy". Is that something that I would be able to do or is it internal? Thanks for the support so far, MB has been the best solution for Roku streaming I've found and the support is great. Have you read this topic?: http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/topic/3277-roku-selecting-audio-and-subtitle-tracks/ I scanned through it but it didn't seem to quite apply. I am able to select subtitles fine and they display fine in the menu. It's when the video is actually played back, and only when the subtitles are in that specific ID slot, that they do not display during playback. Tikuf 663
To move the subtitles to another track with ffmpeg is quite eay. Takes about 5-10 secs for each item (you will probably have to write a batch file or something) Or i have a few little tools i have written myself. Before shot - look down the bottom see that the subs is track 0:0 (or track 1) Run ffmpeg -i "path\input filename.ext" -c copy "path\output filename.ext" and in the output file name you will see the track numbers have changed You can also do it with mkv merge gui by re arranging the track order and clicking on start muxing. I will one day find why the server doesn't see it
neovisual 0
Thanks, I'll try to work with the batch and see if I can't get something with wildcards figured out. I've known I can rearrange in mkvmerge but haven't been able to figure out a very efficient way of doing it. After seeing the output of that command it jogged my memory of old mkv->mp4 passthru with a program called WinFF that I had used before. There is also a preset for passthru MKV. Unfortunately, both the command and WinFF do not copy embedded fonts properly. You can demux and add them to the repository yourself though. There are links to the passthru profiles around, as they are not default with WinFF. Not sure if I am allowed to post links or not.
