Ceton InfiniTV 4 PCIe Tuner Support

I'd like to get a firm answer regarding support for Ceton tuners. Does the native Emby live TV / DVR features support these or no? I know I've seen a screen shot on this forum of Ceton tuners displaying on the server admin page. My tuners don't show up when I scan for them, but maybe this is just due to them being tied up by ServerWMC? If Ceton tuners aren't supported, would the most comparable tuner that does work with Emby the HDHR Prime? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi, Ceton will work but it requires external software such as ServerWMC. In this case you will need both the ServerWMC software and the ServerWMC plugin for Emby.

For native support without any plugins, we recommend HD Homerun network tuners. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

Old post but still relevant.  so thought I'd just post it here.  Couple things:

@cayars

1. If the Ceton turner is enabled as a network tuner you still need Server WMC?

2. Do you know if I have this in a WMC computer still if both could be used at the same time to access the tuners?

Emby can't directly use a Ceton tuner regardless of how you set it up.

There are two known working methods to use Ceton tuners in Emby.

First is to have an old Win 7 machine that you can run ServerWMC on.  Then after you have that functioning you install the the ServerWMC plugin in Emby from the Plugin Catalog and configure this to talk to your WMC Server.

However, if you don't have the need for ServerWMC other than for use with Emby I would try installing NextPVR but make sure it's version 4.  V4 supports Ceton tuners. Once you have that working you then install and configure the NextPVR plugin. You will need to make sure to use the NextPVR plugin for Version 4 of NextPVR.

You can certain try Version 5 but I don't think Ceton was added back when it was recorded as very few users were still using it.

These are both doing the same thing.  The reason I'd try to use NextPVR is that it runs on current versions of Windows so that's a security benefit.

There's an external program called Ceton Proxy (link below) that I've successfully used with Emby to tune my internal Ceton InfiniTV 4 in the past, though admittedly I haven't tried recently and it doesn't look like the GitHub has been updated recently. It's easy to setup tho and worked great if it's still compatible, so worth a shot.

I recently helped a person remotely with all 3 options which can work.

For the average person IMHO NextPVR V4 is the best choice by a smidge.

Thanks for the replies.  So here's the thing.  I have Windows 7 MCE and am still running it because I can't get my family to let me put a dish on the roof or even in the attic to replace MCE and Comcast for that matter.  Will any of these options work ON the MCE box and will any of them allow me to keep using MCE to record my shows without taking over the tuners?  And the big one maybe, any way that the solutions would know if tuners are available or not?  Obviously MCE knows what tuners are available next week if I have 5 shows at the same time it's going to complain, but if I'm using 3 tuners on MCE and 1 with Emby and a 4th show starts on MCE would it know it's not available?  If that makes sense or can break this out into mroe understandable questions.

If matters to should note I have a lifetime subscription to Emby.  Not sure if that matters to how I hook things up.

Thanks.

It all depends on the setup.  If for example you import an M3U channel source you can setup the number of tuners available in the setup.
However, Emby doesn't have any kind of conflict resolution built in and will just try to tune the channel until it hits the tuner count (you setup) or it can't tune the channel.

Thanks for the replies.  So I took a shot at the Proxy method and it works and this is really cool to see work within Emby.  Was curious if anyone knows something though.  It takes an uncomfortable amount of time to tune the channel but eventually does.  is one method faster than another to start showing Live TV?

Something else I was interested in and have hesitated to try it.  If I am recording a show on WMC and then try and record the same show in Emby, would the tunners just load the same channel on two tuners or get confused because it already has a tuner tuned to that channel?  Imagine eventually may stop using WMC to record but for now it's a work in progress.

All the proxies slow down tuning.  Can't say one is better than another that I recall.

Emby should be able to share the tuner for watching and recording.
