help me please to connect emby to my domain name

I come to you for help.

 

here I bought a domain name on 1 & 1, so far nothing crazy. then I created a subdomain of type media.name.com. I set his dns to point to my server emby. I also changed the local ports in emby by setting 80 for the http and 443 for the https. I also opened these ports on the firewall. but the problem is that when I type the address of my subdomain in the browser, it notes me that media.monnomdedomaine.fr does not allow the connection. this site is inaccessible. I admit to being lost.

Did you try to connect from an outside source?

 

If you try to connect to that sub domain from the same location as your server, it probably won't work.

 

To properly test this out, turn off wifi on your cell phone so you are on 3G (or what ever G you have) and then try to access that domain.

DNS changes can sometimes take 24 hours as well.

thank you, but my emby server is on a dedicate server so is not on the same network that my devices. and it's now 72h that I changed the dns

I'm not sure why exactly it isn't working for you.

 

Have you double checked all of emby advanced settings to make sure he server is facing the internet properly?

 

Perhaps I could explain what I do, it might help.

 

I use an application called 'Caddy Server'

 

It will create its own https certificates.

 

I open that server to the Internet trough its config file called a 'CaddyFile'

 

Once that is setup I use a reverse proxy in caddy to redirect Endpoints back to my emby server.

 

One good thing about Caddy is that it will update a Let's Encrypt certificate automatically when it's life span is up.

 

Also, putting emby in a reverse proxy adds some extra privacy for emby.

 

If you would like to attempt this, please let me know an I can show you how exactly.

Yes I want. I would like when I type media.moovix.fr that I fall directly on the login page of the emby server. if i can easily do it with caddy server, it interests me greatly.

okay go get caddy, download the version which fits your system setup:

I would just run it from a folder you create in your C:/ drive called 'Caddy'

 

so create the folder 'c:/caddy'

 

unpack the contents of the downloaded zip file into that folder

 

next open the file called 'CaddyFile' with notepad.

 

This is what you'll need to put in there:

SUB_DOMAIN_NAME.YOUR_DOMAIN_NAME.COM {

    tls YOUR_EMAIL_ADDRESS_FOR_CERTIFICATE_AUTH

    timeouts none

 

   proxy / 192.168.X.X:8096 {

Change the information in this example to your own info:

 

sub domain.domain.com <--or whatever it might be

your email address

emby servers sub net ip and port (ex.: 192.168.2.12:8096)

 

 

save the caddy file (remember it has no extension)

 

open a cmd prompt with administrative privileges and 'cd' into the caddy folder (ex.: cd c:\caddy)

 

next run caddy with the parameter '-agree=true' <-- this will agree to Let's Encrypts terms of service

 

that whole line looks like this:

 

caddy -agree=true

 

 

note: make sure your domain is pointed back to your public ip address. This means that the 'A' type record is your public up address. Make sure that port 80 and 443 are open on your router firewall.

 

 

there are lots of fun things you can do with caddy, read the docs and find out.

If you downloaded caddy server for Linux, create a file called "CaddyFile" in the root folder you put the server application download in.

 

The. Copy the information from my post above into the newly created CaddyFile, with the changes for your own domain.

 

Look at was swynol post, make sure the A type record on your domain is pointing back to your public IP

 

Run caddy from terminal with super user privileges, sudo

 

Other then that, I'm afraid my Linux knolage is limited.

what is also weird is that my access emby only works with the local address, even remotely. the address of the remote access (wan) does not work. I also tried on my computer with windows, the same.

Do you for sure have a public IP address?

 

You should start testing from the ground up.

 

1. internally does your emby server web app load?  https://local-IP-Address:port ?
2. Do you get a public IPv4 address?  My ISP does not, and I had to work around that.
3. If so, you should test.  Does your public IPv4 address match your WAN ip address
   https://whatismyipaddress.com/ 
4. Are you redirecting port 443 to the correct internal IP address in your router?

Hello Swynol

I have my own website and own domain hosting on SiteGround hosting & DNS company, I have added a subdomain name as emby.mydomain.com then add A or Cname record to my public IP (home emby server), than my website crashed.

 

After an investigation that cannot change or add any A or Cname to SG DNS point to my public IP. 

When I ping to emby.mydomain.com returns of course show SG provider IP. 

 

Would you help what is wrong with my case?

Yes! 

all ports are open as instruction. 

I am not sure about the Dynamic DNS on no-ip.com? DO I need DDNS when I have a subdomain with SSL cert already installed on my own subdomain.

 

My website will be crashed if I add A or Cname record pointing to the DDNS on no-ip.com.

A names can be IP only.    You can look into something like dynu.com  i think they still provide a free dns service for dynamic IP's.   Dyndns services take a free domain name like blah.dyn.com and allow that name to be updated with your changing IP from home..     DYNU.com allows you to supply your own domain name and have it updated with your changing ip from home.      Some other dyn services offer this, but i have found most charge.   you will need to update the A name with your server IP for now, manually.
