Integrate Windows MCE into EMBY

EMBY started as MediaBrowser add-on for MCE as far as I know and I'm using MediaBroser/EMBY with MCE already for more then 10-15 years to full satisfaction. Unfortunately, Microsoft terminated MCE years ago, but many users are still using it in WIndows 7/8 or even in Windows 10 as we are, but MCE is a 'dead' product.....

Although we are using a combination of KODI (also an earlier Microsoft X-Box spin-off as XBMC) and EMBY together, there is NOTHING that userfriendly & intuitive as MCE.....

Request: please try to make a deal with Microsoft and implement MCE (of a look-a-like) within EMBY as the main-home 10-feet user interface, being used to view Live-TV, film, TV-series, Photo's, listen music, and Internet browsing, etc. Start with Windows-10 as the viewing platform, later-on Android, Apple, etc.

This way, EMBY is to my opinion, able to atrack the mayor viewer-user group with a very flexible EMBY-MCE combination.

Lots of success!

What extra are you looking for?

EMBY Theater is essentially the WMC replacement in my eyes?

I get that MC has very small but loyal user base but I can't imagine copying a failed product makes a lot of business sense.

I think a lot can be drawn from windows Media center and when we make design decisions we constantly go back and look at how wmc did things.

I think I would describe it differently than failed product. It certainly failed in the mainstream but it did not fail within our little niche industry of personal media enthusasiasts. But we're not a big enough crowd for Microsoft to care about and I think that's why they stopped working on it.

Emby theater can't do copy once cable channels and it could do with some more remote functions. Imo nothing has worked better than WMC.

I use live tv with Emby on tvs without an htpc. I think wmc handles live tv better though. TVs with an htpc I prefer to use wmc. I also have a handful of channels that have drm. Maybe someday I’ll be able to use 1 software that handles both really well. The cable companies need to abolish drm.

Although EMBY and KODI are fairly good, there is nothing as good as the user interface of WMC: especially looking live-TV and zapping channels, EPG, recording programming, etc. is working perfectly within WMC, where EMBY (and KODI) is still lacking many functionality...

Please try to integrate WMC into EMBY !

Lots of success!

I second the comment about Live TV.  The guide is snappy and the commands are intuitive.  While I love that Emby has Live TV capabilities, it still pales to MC.

The Windows Media Center SDK is now (unofficially) on GitHub

The Windows Media Center wasn't exactly the most popular feature among Windows users, but many still mourned its death when Microsoft announced it wouldn't be keeping the feature around for Windows 10. Soon after that announcement, some users even found a way to get it running on the then-latest version of the OS, so it's clear that there was some love left for the software.

If you, too, miss the days of Windows Media Center, you may take some solace in knowing that its SDK has been uploaded to GitHub, as reported by The Register. The SDK was uploaded by Charlie Owen, a former Microsoft employee who left the company in 2014. The description for the project reads:

Preserving a bit of history for the diaspora that created Windows Media Center (the 'eHome' team at Microsoft) since the actual installer has gone missing from the original download link.

As for what you can do with the SDK, there's not really much to it. Windows Media Center is dead, and there's not really a lot you can do with it. You may find it interesting, though, to learn more about the ins and outs of what used to be a fairly unique part of Windows.

If you'd like to take a look at the Windows Media Center SDK, you can head over to the project page on GitHub.

Is this the first step to make it easier to implement the MCE user-interface into EMBY ?

As it is stil  the best, please consider seriously !

I am a huge wmc fan but after I got Android TV and configured it how I like it now looks better than wmc and so far it is rock solid just like wmc used to be. Emby is still missy features but I like the progress the Android TV and roku app they are both production ready there are few gui issues on android tv but with the rapid progress they will be likely ironed out soon.

I am a huge wmc fan but Android TV with its options interface can be made to look better than WMC. It still has a way to go to have all the pvr features but there is a lot of progress and hopefully soon we can all retire wmc. The only thing missing is a feature rich client for windows the current version is so far behind ATV and roku.
