Hi @@Luke

thanks. But the question is how I can access those folders. I think they are root folders. Because I dont see any emby folder on my volume...

So my question is, how people on synology access the installation path

I use WinSCP when I want to look at the Emby installation folders, I think I had to enable SSH first

Sure,

On NAS

Control Panel

Terminal & SNMP

Enable SSH and click Apply

Download and install WinSCP on Windows machine

https://winscp.net/eng/download.php

Protocol SCP

Host NAS/Emby IP

Port 22

User admin

Password use your admin pw

Interface should look like Windows file explorer

Hi, thanks for the tut.

I did this, but all I see is the folder "web" on Synology. I am successfully on it, but I am not seeing root directories.

That's why I am asking if you changed something or shared something special to access installation folders?

I sadly have an additional question. I dont have acces in deleting the files. I need to replace the trakt.tv addon, but  seams like I dont have access. Do you have experience in that? How can I gain access and delete/replace the file?

I may have done something else to allow WinSCP to delete.  I'll see if I can find it.

Good day,

This the best steps:

https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=116102&start=195#p448421

Every time DSM update, run it once. Then WinSCP will work for you for edit/del ... etc.

Hey @@FrostByte and @@Abobader

thank you so much for your help. I understand more now. But something changed in neweset DSM. They say I need to do this to have root access and delete files:

https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General/How_to_login_to_DSM_with_root_permission_via_SSH_Telnet

But how can I do this? If I do it with PUTTY I am in this weird console.

If I open the console in winSCP it doesnt do anything.

Do you have an idea how I can execute this command properly in WINSCP?

when in putty did it change your prompt to "root" after typing sudo -i ?

After you become root in putty then you can navigate and delete using commands like dir, cd, rm etc which you may be familiar with from Windows command prompt

Thanks for your response @@FrostByte

I am not familiar with this stuff. Attached youll find what I did:

But still after or while doing this I can't delete the plugin file on my NAS.

Do i need to stay in PUTTY or close it or do I need to type this command again somewhere in WinSCP?

LOL.  I think this is like the blind leading the blind because I've only been doing this for a couple months myself since buying my NAS :)  I'm pretty sure was in that link Abo posted.  I'll post back

I found out, this did the trick with WINSCP:

https://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=116102&sid=3bf31850427ebfcd31a32984cfecf4a4&start=225#p503978

Thanks to you all for your help!

Good day,

I thought you did that already, either way, I am glad you fix the issue.

Please notice, not do do things until you are sure about, since now accessing your nas as admin right to top root folder.

Hello All

It would be better to SSH to the box, then use your file transfer client of choice from the console to grab whatever external resources you need.

There are always risks, but if you're doing this then in all likelihood you know what your doing.

There's more chance of dragging and dropping something unintentionally with something like WinSCP, especially if you're connecting as root; which could end up being a bad day at the office.

Best

- James
