In the media info above it says the codec ID is hev1 but the one Apple supports I believe is either hvc or hvc1. There’s a few other threads where folks have reported the same thing. In fact, the limitations of Apple native player make both Plex and Emby clients on ATV almost useless without Transcoding especially for HEVC which in fact supported by iOS but only in one flavor. ginsengbomb 5 Posted August 23, 2018 Share Posted August 23, 2018 I just started trying to use Emby again (I like that Emby sync to Google Drive works whereas Plex's...doesn't at all work) and am seeing that 100% of my 4K/HDR videos transcode on AppleTV. They seem to all be HEVC. Am I right in determining from this thread that this is expected and that the new player should resolve it? (Because of this issue right now I'm basically using Emby to just do automated cloud sync to Google Drive and doing all my local/LAN viewing on Plex since it handles the same files fine w/ HDR) Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They're both showing this in the stream mapping section: " Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (hevc (native) -> h264 (h264_nvenc)) ". Plex plays both of these fine with HDR on my AppleTV 4k, Emby transcodes. I haven't tested Emby recently on another box but I'm pretty sure when I played these files on my old Roku, Emby direct streamed it (i.e. converted the container w/o touching the actual video) rather than transcoding. log1.txt log2.txt Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
