Preface: I haven't seen an upgrade of Emby pushed to my Ubuntu 16.04 server in some time, thought it was just taking awhile to push the packages to the OpenSUSE.org servers.

I've found many threads referencing or explaining different ways people have switched from managed packages to several different methods of upgrading Emby, but I can't seem to find an original thread explaining what the situation is and why people are trying to migrate methods in all kinds of different ways.

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here, but I can't seem to find any thread plainly epxlaining the situation and why/how I should be managing my server packages now.

Thanks devs and community members.

hi @@biddy, see posts #3 and #4 here to learn how you can manually  update your existing installation:

The newer packages on our website will perform better but they require a complete uninstallation and purge, followed by a fresh install. As far as the OpenSuse repository goes, getting that back up and running will take a bit of work due to compatibility issues with the newer server releases. Considering that for the last 8 months it has only been used to house what are now legacy packages, I am not quite sure when we'll be able to get to that. Thanks.

For anyone who was using the old OpenSUSE APT repository and would like to keep using APT to keep their Emby server's up to date, I've built a simple utility that builds a simple APT repository from the official Emby *.deb releases.  Let me know if you have any issues.
