Have you checked your series recording settings?

Yes. "Do not record existing..." is checked.

If you go to that series in Emby, does it show that episode properly identified?

Its identified as far as name and episode number Ebr. Looking at the info page it doesnt have a TVDB or IMDB number associated with it but non of my over the air recorded TV show have that so I assume thats normal?

It recorded another episode that already exists. Emby must be aware of something as it’s needing to append a numeral 1 at the end if the shows name.

That just means there was a duplicate file name in the file system.

Can you look in "Edit Info" for one of these episodes and confirm that the series ID, season number and episode number are filled in?

For DVR content I have a season and episode number yes. I see no "series ID" section anywhere in any of my TV shows though.

kind of linked to this, for a while now (i think following a change you made at one user's request) the naming and therefore matching is completely broken for daily live tv programs. i did post about this following your change to make recorded tv a proper library rather than how it used to be.

these are very typically how daily recorded tv shows appear in emby:

the emmerdale one, i have no idea what you are doing, the date is correct but that show was recorded at 8pm

obviously, emby is completely unable to match this so you end up with a folder for season unknown with all the recordings in and a folder for the correct series with all the empty media stubs in them. i still maintain that you havent done anywhere near enough of the groundwork to have converted recorded tv to a true library.

even with properly named and matched media items emby is not able to determine which episode it should play next, with the above its just a complete mess

Ok - i am experiencing the recordings of episodes i already have - on the Stable Server

Basically it because the dev's have changed the Recording features to add the (year) to the Series folder - and now Emby thinks it has two different "versions" of each show you are recording.

Example

In my Recordings Folder i have - i await the Film2018 (2018) folder to appear later in the year when its back on air!

In my TV Library i have

5b008692d501e_Capture2.jpg

Because they never needed the years before and dont now to get metadata

Comparing the imdb, themoviedb and tvdb - id's and they are the same

So can we have a fix for this as the recording feature in Emby is becoming less useful with each change!

Oh and one way to fix @Spaceboys problem is to get your episode data for shows like Emmerdale from Trakt as it has dates and episode numbers - if its too difficult to figure out which of the two shows per day Emby is actually recording

CBers

There should only be "(year)" added to the name to differentiate between 2 shows of the same name, such as "Lost in Space" and "Lost in Space (2018)".

Except that we have no way of knowing that an alternative show exists so that is why we just always do it. It really shouldn't cause any harm unless we have a situation where the guide data is not correct.

Well from reading the comments above, it doesn't look like it's working as you expected.

Strange why respond to a single line comment and ignore users reporting issues - but obviously an acknowledgement that it needs looking at is too much trouble?

That was a simple statement that can be responded to quickly. We put the more complex issue reports into a queue and then respond as they are looked at. Nobody is ever ignored.

So, I'm having the same issue.

What is the work around?  Do I rename all my Shows to include the year of the show starting?  Is it as simple as just changing the folder name or do I have to rename all the Ep's?

Hi there. Can you please describe the issue that you're having? Thanks !

He's probably having the same issue as others already mentioned in this thread.  I to have this issue but haven't commented since it's already been reported.

In a nutshell Emby is recording episodes that already exist on the system when it should not.

I personally have noticed this a lot on series that have multiple years (all my folders have year in them) or shows like Hawaii Five-0/O which confuses it.

There are multiple issues with DVR since the "fix" was put it as well as long standing issues that are really needed.  Any status/word on the "re-write" you were going to do for DVR?
