shrouski 7
I'm having problems playing back a 4K HDR encode through Emby. It tries to transcode but doesn't play. Plex transcodes and plays, though as far as I know, it's not necessary. I've just put the file on a USB and it plays perfectly straight through the TV. shrouski 7
Hi Luke Attached are the files. I left it a little longer this time and it did eventually play though laggy (probably just my CPU in fairness), but as it's encoded it to AVC it lost the HDR so was washed out. Thanks embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-73ba17d6-53dd-465e-bc6e-8661d40b05bc.txt
Luke 36879
It's burning in subtitles which is a very expensive process. Your system can barely keep up and that is why it is playing laggy. Try turning off the subtitles and see if this helps. Thanks.
shrouski 7
That was it Luke, thanks. It had forced subtitles, I didn't realise. I still think it shouldn't re-encode to h264 though, should keep it h265 if it's BT.2020, otherwise it's not watchable
Luke 36879
It has to because LG does not support PGS subtitles, and therefore the only way to display them is transcoding and burning the subtitles into the video. That's why I suggested disabling the subtitles, and/or acquiring external text srt subtitles which will be more efficient. Our subtitle download features can help with that. SamES 880
Another option is to download and use 'Subtitle Edit' to extract the PGS subs of your choice and convert them to srt using it's OCR process. Then you will have perfectly synchronised srt subs for your file! A great option also for making your own 'forced subs' srt file. shrouski 7
I've set Emby to download the subs as SRT as well. The fact still remains that Emby strips out the HDR data when it transcodes though, which possibly isn't just an issue on the LG app.

HansWurst 15
4k doesn't work on the LG app anyway. Not enough, it stops my server working, which means not only the emby server but the whole system (Synology DS 1815) stops working. Only restarting the server will make it work again. I am using the emby addon in Kodi on a Nvidia Shield and as the android-tv-app on Nvidia Shield as well. In both cases 4-k-content works without any problems, which means, the problem must be the lg app itself. HD- and SD-content works in the LG app without problems as well. SamES 880
Hi, can you please provide the media info for a 4k file that is not playing? Please confirm the audio track you are trying to play and if you using subtitles, what format they are in. Thanks
