ISO Playback

Hi,

I've been reading but can't find a solution.

I'm running server v3.3.1.0 on 192.168.1.3 and my client is an intel NUC i5 running Emby Theatre 3.0.0 on Window 7, 192.168.1.50.

Trying to play ISO bluray, but nothing happens when I press play button in Theatre.

I tried setting PowerDVD as the external player, tried VirtualCDMount, tried potplayer.

In External Player config I added the correct path to the player, then checked 'ISO' and 'bluray', and set the params to {PATH}

When I check the server's log, this is what I see:

2018-04-24 15:04:13.614 Info App: Profile: Unknown Profile, Path: \\192.168.1.3\BD_F\Earth.to.Echo.(2014)\Earth.to.Echo.(2014).Bluray.iso, isEligibleForDirectPlay: True, isEligibleForDirectStream: True

2018-04-24 15:04:13.614 Info App: RemoteClientBitrateLimit: 15000000, RemoteIp: 192.168.1.50, IsInLocalNetwork: True
2018-04-24 15:04:13.739 Info HttpResultFactory: Transmit file C:\Users\maor\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata\cache\images\resized-images\8\88fec8e4-88fd-c8ad-029b-11be61af8616.webp

When I play video files (mp4, mkv, avi), no issues.

Does anyone have ISO playback working? Looking for playing 2D and 3D ISO's.

How do i get the ISO to mount in the client's VirtualCD app?

Thanks!

I agree with Sammy, however to answer your question, did you review the command line arguments for the external player? Are they correct based on what powerdvd or potplayer expect? You will need to research that part.

Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !

I would still make sure to research the command line arguments. And no, Emby Theater won't mount it for you.

I see. What I'm puzzled by is that nothing happens, I don't see anything in the Theatre nor the server logs.

Here's the Theatre log:

Here's my Theatre external player setting:

I ran the player with the full UNC path to the ISO in a Windows commandline and it plays the movie. But when I press Play in Theatre nothing happens.

Thanks!

Can't you just que up several at a time in mkvMergeGUI and hit go? After that's done, delete the iso's to make room and do the next batch. I found iso to be such a PITA long ago plus I don't really want to wait through numerous FBI warnings, ads and old trailers either. Consider the time wasted doing that when you consider the time it takes to rip these to mkv.

I have not done this but my understanding is you need to fill in the line that says "Command Line Arguments" with the appropriate arguments expected by whatever external player you're going to use to playback iso. Emby doesn't provide support for this because there's so many different players with different expectations for these arguments. This is where you need to consult documentation for the player you're using to make the correct settings.

Completely agree, I guess I have a new project in my hands...

What about 3D rips? I just want to remux, not encode, same with 3D MVC. Can you recommend any guides for ripping?

Luke, still puzzled as to why nothing happens when I press Play.

Thanks!

The thing is nothing shows up in the log telling me the command was executed (whether failed or succeeded), that's what I'm puzzled about. i press Play and nothing happens.

When I press play on a web browser session, an image appears full-screen (i believe that's the fan-art image), and after a few seconds I get an error that no suitable streams were found (which is understandable when it comes to raw ISO), so at least something is happening. When I press Play in Emby Theare, nothing happens, no fanart image is shown and there's nothing in the logs. That's really what my question/issue is...

In other words, it appears the ISO file extension is 'unplayable' format.

shpitz461 I used Powerdvd to mount iso files in Emby Theater but it has stopped working completely. I do however enjoy Emby for Media Center with Windows 10 using Virtual Clone Mount. Good luck

Can Virtual Clone Mount be automated?

I have had Virtual Clone Drive to mount iso for years but nearly use it anymore.

Is Virtual Clone Mount something new or are they the same thing? Of course since I don't use Virtual Clone Drive it is probably versions out of date and I may have missed something.

What if you setup VLC as an external player for iso? Can you see how that compares?

Yeah, that's what I'm experiencing... it's as if ISO extension is not recognized as 'playable' and therefore nothing happens when I try to play.  Something is not right with Emby Theatre 3.0.0, not sure if prior versions worked or not.

Anyway. I give up on ISO and will embark on remuxing tour and remux all my ISO rips.

Does anyone have a good guide for remuxing into MKV for 2D and 3D (MVC) ISO's?

It doesn't matter what external player I set, Emby Theatre 3.0.0 will not try to play the ISO extension.

I use a two step process. First use MakeMKV to convert the ISO then drag and drop the MKV file into MKVToolNIX to convert the MKV file  to mk3d (extremely easy). It takes a little longer but the playback results are always impressive.

I use a two step process. First use MakeMKV to convert the ISO then drag and drop the MKV file into MKVToolNIX to convert the MKV file  to mk3d (extremely easy). It takes a little longer but the playback results are always impressive.

Learn something new every day.. This results in Frame Packed MVC? Can nVidia ShieldTV play mk3d in Frame Packed MVC?

Here's my Theatre external player setting:

I ran the player with the full UNC path to the ISO in a Windows commandline and it plays the movie. But when I press Play in Theatre nothing happens.

Try to remove the quotation marks in player path and command line and write {path} in lower case.

At least for me, this works for playing video files, so they are not needed.

Ciao, Alfred

Cool, thanks, will give it a try!

I tried with and without, ISO files refuse to play, video files play fine.

you shouldn't wrap the arguments in quotes because the app will already do that.

Also try lowercasing to {path} as indicated in the help text below. Thanks.

I do not have nVidia ShieldTV so I cant comment on that but I have tried MPC-HC and it works with limited depth for 3D playback. Powerdvd 17 and 18 both have stunning results, IMO !

I gave up on ISO, had issues were the ISO file would not mount.

I ripped all my discs to mkv/mk3d using either MakeMKV or DVDFab. They both did a good job remuxing (no re-encoding).
