Issues with resume

I've just installed Emby on my Banana Pi and I have a newly reinstalled Kodi running on a Windows 10 machine. The problem is that resuming a show that is in progress doesn't appear to work. Either Kodi completely ignores that the show / film was already halfway through or it pops up the message saying that the show was 30 minutes or so in, asks me if I want to continue and then doesn't start. The next time I click on the show it will start at the beginning of the show.

I'm not sure what I can do next to resolve this issue but given that resuming shows on multiple devices was one of the two main reasons I decided to switch from my old set up of using mqSQL when I reinstalled Kodi, this is a fairly big problem. Apart from this SNAFU everything else seems to be working fairly well. Any ideas what I can do to resolve this?

Your content is missing it's runtime value. Try refreshing the file in the web app (3 dots > refresh metadata > refresh missing metadata I think)

In the webapp, on the episode detail page you should see the runtime value below the title of the episode.

I'm not seeing it. This isn't happening with just one show, I have yet to be able to get it to resume ever.

This is how it should show. Also, without the runtime it is impossible to set the resume point.

But as you can see from the screenshot Kodi is getting the correct runtime from somewhere! It's just that when it tries to then play from that point it goes nowhere. In fact often it will repeatedly go nowhere and the only thing I can do is exit the folder for the show and then come back in again before it will play the file (from the start).

Ok but I am telling you it does not matter what Kodi says ;) Fix your runtime issue and everything will behave correctly.

The add-on sets the resume point manually and it can't do so without the runtime value.

Edit: Not only because the add-on sets the resume point manually, but also because your server can't hold that information since it's missing the runtime. So any Emby app will not resume until you have the runtime correctly detected.

Okay but how do I fix the runtime issue? I've tried what you said earlier (assuming you mean the "search for missing metadata" option) and it didn't do anything. Nothing changed on the webapp.

Please attach the complete emby server log from when you attempted this. thanks.

Here you go.

I restarted emby to make the log shorter then started up Kodi. I ran the tv show, skipped to 19 minutes in and then stopped. When I attempted to restart it went straight to the start of the episode without offering to let me resume. I went to the page for that episode in the webapp and selected the "search for missing metadata" option. I got a pop-up saying that the request had been queued. But the runtime still does not show in the webapp.

I believe it is armhf. Where did you get your server installation instructions?

Ok that's old. You should instead use the instructions from our website. You used our older install package which requires you to provide the ffmpeg build. Our newer package has it self contained so that you don't have to worry about it.

I tried following the instructions given on this page.

https://emby.media/linux-server.html

but that just resulted in this error

Selecting previously unselected package emby-server.
(Reading database ... 16059 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack emby-server-deb_3.3.1.0_armhf.deb ...
Unpacking emby-server (3.3.1.0) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of emby-server:
 emby-server depends on libc6 (>= 2.22); however:
Version of libc6:armhf on system is 2.19-18+deb8u10.

dpkg: error processing package emby-server (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for libc-bin (2.19-18+deb8u10) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 emby-server
dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.3.1.0_armhf.deb  16.39s user 8.67s system 17% cpu 2:22.27 total

I think that's why I ended up following the instructions from the other page last time. Any idea what would be the best way to fix that dependency?

apt-get install libc6
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
libc6 is already the newest version.
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 emby-server : Depends: libc6 (>= 2.22) but 2.19-18+deb8u10 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

It seems that's the highest version in the repositories that Bananian has by default. I'm just wondering if I can get it from somewhere else, and if so, where.

Wow, even that 2.22 version that we're depending on is already three years old.

Well trying to get this to work on the Banana Pi proved to drag me down into a mess of dependencies. So instead of testing on the Pi I decided to go with the eventual goal of installing it on my QNAP TS-431. And it's the exact same issue, I guess the problem was never anything to do with the Pi then! Either I'm configuring Emby incorrectly on both machines or something is screwed up with my Kodi set up. And the only thing I've done on Kodi is do a fresh install, and then stick Emby or EmbyCon on top of it and point it at my server (both fail to resume playback) so I'm pretty certain the fault is with emby.

Okay, this has definitely gotten stranger. Resume is now working sometimes (although I don't think I actually changed anything!). If I play a file in the browser or via DLNA it works (mostly) but if I play the file via Kodi I see the icon briefly turn to incomplete when I stop the film and I see the resume button appear in the webapp. Then kodi marks the movie complete and the resume button goes away again a second later.
