Preemptively cache images

It would be useful if the server (or perhaps clients) could cache most (if not all) content images (posters, backdrops, logos, etc) for movies, TV series and seasons.

This would mainly be of benefit when a portion of someone's content is offline but the users would still like to view the content to know what exists.

I think caching on the server would be preferable, then all clients could make use of the same cached images.

if you think this would be a useful feature, please click the "Like This" button on this post.

After my various attempts, I found the problem. I have ten mobile hard disks to store my video, but I found that when I built the media library and pulled out the hard disk, all the cached images are not displayed. I found out in "cache\images\resized-images" The cached images are created, but they are not displayed on the server, so what is the use of these caches? I tried to add a cover image to the video, then found them in "metadata\library", they are displayed normally when the hard drive is removed, but I have more than 4,000 videos, I can't add them one by one. . .

All of my videos can't find information on IMDB, but the folder has a corresponding cover image, background image and NFO. EMBY is the best, it can easily recognize these and display, PLEX will only take pictures from the video, and does not load the existing cover image, but it will always exist, even if you remove the hard drive.

I don't know if this request is difficult. Can we add an option to create a cover and background image for the local media when I create a new media library? Maybe it will take up more storage space and scan time, but we can give it to User selection. Or call a cache of resized thumbnails for clients in "cache\images\resized-images", I don't know if it takes up hard disk space but it doesn't work. . .

What are the conditions for adding new features, it’s been a year. . . I don't know if anyone is experiencing this problem, but it is really troublesome.

think i have same issue. most of my collection is stored on external hard drives with the "save artwork into media folders" setting checked. this is how the library looks like when some of the media is offline:

I'm curious @@Luke, what would cause this to happen rather than the entries being deleted entirely?

@@AdrianW, sorry for that I'm not posting in forum generally.

I really want a cache for my use which is quite specific :

I want to search media on an android device whith poster, cast, note, filter, search ...  Because my box is only upnp/dlna/aircast .

Once I found a movie I want to watch I mount the drive on my server and send it from android to my box->TV .

The server (not a really one, just an old pc) is quite always on but the storage drive with my movies (external 3"5 mounted with an usb interface)  are on demand , I don't mount my 3 external HD always because I just want to watch 2/3... movies (900 in total) a week.

When the drive are mounted : delicious !

But when unmounted accessing emby remove all fanart, poster ...

I think a cache files is needed, readed when files aren't accessible, and not replaced with db refreshing.

It's seem quite simple , I love and use Tinymediamanager and it's the way I'd like emby will work :

- Adding medias, metas, and arts when HD connected.

- Keep accesing all stuffs either HD are offline (of course with warning if trying playing unmounted movie).

Don't know if it this can interrest some people or is a priority, but if not I perhaps will fork a Jellyfin apps and made my customs choices.

I really want a media server which fits MY needs.

Sorry for the fluency, I'm just an old  french man.

Keep up the good work !

This will be a great implimentation that will improve the user experience to a whole new level. Especially when many people are using the cloud storages as media library.

Curious, because I don't really know.

Wouldn't disabling the option to store the artwork with the media files correct the issue since they would all be on a central database?  You can't expect a server to read to read from a disk that isn't there/mounted.  It seems a bit tedious/overkill to download all the images to all the clients that connect to a server.  Keeping those synced would be a nightmare I think.

Another idea would be an "option" to store the images both with the server, and with the media files.  But that's a pretty big change.

+1 on this request, yes,I can disalbe the option to store artwork with media files, but it is a pain when I need to recreate the library, I think "option" to store the images both with server and media files will be great.

Same here. I have a lot of custom artwork and recreating my library would take forever. You also loose everything if you ever need a fresh installation.

Are there any new developments to this feature request or has anybody found a workaround? The original request is over two years old by now.

+1

Having cached copies of all library images would be fantastic.  I have a ton of custom movie posters, wrestling event posters, TV show covers and thumbnails, etc.  Because of this I keep all of my images in the media folders in case I have to do a rebuild (and have just lived with the downside of sluggishness from a library browsing perspective as the lesser of two evils).  Having copies of all images saved in the media directories saved to cache would be an awesome option to mitigate the downside entirely.
