Emby Theater With Harmony Smarthub

I know I can't be the only one who uses this combination. With Emby not able to behave like any other program in the Taskbar what workarounds are you using? I used to use Win-1 with Emby in spot one but obviously there's a known issue with proper Taskbar behavior. What work around are you guys using? This drives me nuts.

The issue is previously I could pin Emby Theater to the task bar. So, for example, I could have my Harmony launch Emby with Win-1 keyboard shortcut. This provides a solid platform to execute commands from the harmony to the computer in order to either shrink Emby while changing (in this case my Xbox One) while either keeping Emby alive (full screen) or shrinking Emby and returning Emby to a full screen either through keyboard shortcuts or remote commands.

Yes, it makes it difficult to control Emby with a remote especially in the case of switching sources. I guess I could kill and relaunch when changing sources but often I would like to hop back and forth.

I just ran in to exactly this issue.  I can launch emby theatre via a windows key+1, but if it is already running I cannot switch back to it via the same method.

If I do the same with say chrome, if I win+d and then win+2 it will bring the already running chrome window back to foreground.

Emby theatre seems to try and relaunch, you see the task bar icon look like it was selected, but it does not switch to the running but minimised emby theatre instance.

I think it is because the taskbar shortcut is to Emby Theater.exe, and the open task is actually electron.exe

I guess there is no easy way to use a keyboard shortcut to bring ET back to foreground app??

With the harmony you can specify the task bar position, 1,2 or 3. If you limit your icons to one or two, then you can map where the launched Theater is. In my case, position three. So if I lose focus or something, I can just press the button that is mapped to that icon position. It works very well.

This has not been how it works for me. If I have Emby in position 1 when it launches it opens up in position 3. Are you saying you are able to have it launch in position 1? Alternatively are you saying you have one shortcut for launch and another to regain focus?

I ended up adding a keypress to my autohotkey script and activate the window based on name.  No good if ET isn't already running, but I almost always have it open.

I have mine the same way as you, so I have one button mapped to position one for launching, but I have another button mapped to position three in case it loses focus. So when you press that button, it's back in focus. I use the colored buttons on the remote for this.

I suppose you could make a sequence that would do that with one button. I prefer having a second button in case it accidentally loses focus for some other reason.

I've set up a new mini-pc with Emby Theater using a Harmony Hub and Flirc (Harmony activity to turn on TV, Soundbar, Flirc-Kodi profile and start ET). My issue is that any time the activity is run when ET was previously left open causes ET to lose focus, and the user needs to grab the mouse and click to regain focus. I'm assuming it's because the activity presses Win+1 regardless of whether or not ET is already open. I've created a workaround by mapping ALT-F4 and Win+1 to remote buttons so I can close and reopen ET to regain focus, but it's not exactly the most user friendly experience for users that just want to press one button and start using ET. I'm wondering if anyone knows a way I can circumvent ET losing focus without having to close it every time you want to stop the activity? Since this PC isn't solely used for ET, sometimes the TV will be turned off with ET open, sometimes it'll be closed; so the solution needs to work with both cases. I tried figuring out a way to have Harmony ALT-F4 when the users ends the activity, but couldn't figure out how to get it working; my other issue with that workaround though, is that it will attempt to shut down Windows if ET isn't open when the activity ends.

Anyone have a similar issue or any ideas?

I just noticed the issue seems to be happening because after ET is launched, the actual instance of the program becomes separate from its icon in the taskbar (in my case, the 4th icon from the left, instead of the first icon where it's launched from), so pressing Win+1 gives focus to the wrong icon. I've created a workaround by adding the Win+4 command to the start of my Harmony activity, but this seems like a pretty sloppy way of having to do things; is there any way to fix it so that ET stays in its place in the taskbar, instead of starting a separate instance and creating a new icon in the taskbar? It's the first time I've noticed a program doing this.

I have seen this with a similar set up.  But its not everytime.  Its random enough for me not to pay attention to it.  My main issue now is the mouse cursor doesnt fully disappear or the task bar icon leaves a horizontal white line on the bottom of the screen.  I have to power on the mouse, move the cursor and max/min a few times before either will stay away.  Sometimes it just changes to a resize cursor and stays after I hit resume/play.  Im not sure if thats a ms thing or emby thing however.

It's an Emby issue. THIS little program that was mentioned in another thread fixed the mouse cursor issue for me though. It's a workaround, but it does work; I don't notice the program running in the background, and the program is tiny, and I no longer have to worry about the cursor popping up anymore between episodes.

Also, I'm not sure if it's just coincidence or not, but I haven't noticed the edge of my taskbar being visible during playback since I installed that program, either.

I ended up having to do the same thing basically; my issue was that if Emby was left open when the Harmony activity was ended, the next time the activity started would cause ET to lose focus, because it would try to reopen it with "Win+1", and since it was already open (in my case, in the "Win+3" taskbar location now) it would switch focus to the wrong icon, making ET uncontrollable unless I alt-tabbed over to it, or clicked on the ET window. Obviously this is a pain when all you want to do is use your remote to watch a movie, so I ended up adding "Win+3" to my startup sequence for my Emby Theater Harmony activity. Through testing, this causes no issues whether ET is currently open or not when the activity is started, and solves my issue of losing focus. I've also mapped "Win+3" to a remote button just in case i need it though.

It kind of sucks we need to use these workarounds though, hopefully the devs are able to somehow get ET to stay on one icon, instead of creating a new instance when opened; it would make things a lot more streamlined, and I suspect solve a number of other similar issues that people are having.
