Kilroy30 4
Log.txtI just recently ripped the film Lucy in 4K with TrueHD 7.1 sound. I'm playing it through my Samsung TV--app installed on the TV. The film plays but stops with the blue circle spinning as if trying to buffer. I pause the film, wait for a few minutes, then it runs for some time without pausing, only to pause again. I think it has something to do with the transcoding... not sure. I went to my server and my CPU was maxed out with the FFmpeg using the majority of my CPU. I've attached the log to review. Any ideas how to fix? Luke 37008
hi @@Kilroy30, it looks like your server can't transcode this fast enough. Which Samsung app are you using? the one from the store, or the community app?
FrostByte 5042
Also, I believe the store app still needs some work when it comes to supporting HD audio and will always transcode. You could try making a AC3/DTS track the default audio for now which might stop the need for transcoding; assuming everything else is fine.
Kilroy30 4
I'm using the app from the Samsung store. I have a fire tv attached to the TV as well and played it there. It didn't glitch and my CPU usage was much lower. The downside seemed to be softer colors on the fire tv. Luke- When you say server not fast enough, If I were to upgrade my CPU to the i7 7700K, would that help with the transcode piece? I have a lower generation i7 cpu. Thanks for all the help! CBers 6766
@@Kilroy30 A stupid question, but are your Samsung TV and Fire TV 4K compatible?
FrostByte 5042
@@Kilroy30 A stupid question, but are your Samsung TV and Fire TV 4K compatible? Exactly, if he switched the audio codec to AC3 then it shouldn't transcode at all and that CPU would be a none issue - as long as his tv supports the 4K format used to encode that is Edited March 23, 2018 by FrostByte
Luke 37008
With the next release of the app it should be able to convert the audio without converting the whole video.
Kilroy30 4
I have a Samsung 6 series, and an 8 series 4K UHD tv, as well as a 4K Fire TV. When I streamed directly from my NAS drive and the video plays fine. Only challenge is a box comes up saying sound codec not supported. I really like the option of the higher end sound, and guess I will have to wait for the update to the app. I appreciate the quick responses. Only question left is if the higher end CPU would help me? Thanks again for the responses.
FrostByte 5042
Unfortunately, you still won't get HD audio after the next release the way I read that. It just won't convert the video portion also when it sees HD audio in your files like it does now. Transcoding will always benefit from a faster CPU. However, I would really wait until after the next release to reevaluate because if all it's doing is converting your TrueHD to AC3 on the fly then it shouldn't be all that CPU intensive.
Kilroy30 4
FrostByte-- Thanks for the info... I'll pull it down to AC3 and give it a shot. Too bad it can't keep the higher quality audio... Oh well. I do appreciate your help!
FrostByte 5042
I believe Luke is still working that issue with the HD audio from what I read elsewhere. There still may be a way you can get HD audio. Try turning off audio transcoding under your user settings on the server. It should work, but it would affect all clients you use that account with. I'm assuming here that you have a receiver or sound bar which supports TrueHD and it's plugged into the ARC port or some other port which can passthrough audio, because Samsung TVs do not by themselves support TrueHD, Atmos, etc Edited March 24, 2018 by FrostByte
madhatr 3
I just moved and haven't found my NVIDIA Shield yet. I have been using the version found on the Samsung app center on 2 of my TVs. They are both 2018 Samsung TVs. I am serving Emby from my QNAP x86 with 8gb of ram. Before the move my server/old HTPC died so I had to switch to the QNAP. The only community versions of the Emby app for the TV that I could find were for 2014 and earlier.
