Emby Server won't write images/nfo to folder

Hi, On my Windows Emby server, when I add images or update the metadata through the emby interface, the server adds those images as well as the nfo file to the media folder where I have my movies stored.

On my ASUSTOR Emby Server (3.3.1.0), it will not write any images or nfo data to the media folder, even though the "Save artwork and metadata into media folders" has been selected for this library. The location on the ASUSTOR device is "/volume2/Movies"

Of note, it does not seem to be a permissions issue, as I have the DVR function writing recorded TV files to "/volume1/Recorded TV"

Any help would be appreciated! I can also provide logs, I just don't know which log to attach.

If it's a permissions issue then you'll need to ensure the emby server process has write access to the folders. If you provide a server log from an example then we can verify that.

It does appear to be a permissions issue, but that is odd, as the process can write to the recorded TV folder.

How do I ensure the process has write access to the movie folder?

Update: So upon doing some testing, I created a "test" folder on Volume1, as well as a "test2" folder on Volume2. The emby process has full access to write in both those folders. Would you happen to know how to give write access to the emby user on the "movies" folder? (I believe emby uses its own user, not admin correct?)

Hmm. This might be something that @@Dariusz is handy with.

Good News! I figured out the problem. When I was adding files to the server, it was uploading them as user admin, with permissions 0755 (octal). If I change this to 0777, it obviously will grant permission to the Emby user (and all users).

However, I'm still trying to figure if this is the best (secure?) way to do it.

you can check and make sure you have permissions to write to folders in volume2 in asustor... from the asustor OS go to Access Control/Shared Folders/ then double click your folder in Volume2 that has write issues and it will list you users and their access to that folder... make sure admin has RW permissions..

also in emby server you can go to settings/users (select the user)/access and make sure the user has access to libraries you want..

I just had similar issue and changed Emby to store the metadata into the media folder, problem solved.

Libraries->Movies->tick "Save artwork and metadata in Media folders"
