jellelle 3
Hi, I use Kodi with Emby working in the back (Emby for Kodi). It's a headless pc, only for music, and only connected to amplifier. There is no screen. To control Kodi, I use Yatse on phone. This works fairly well because multiple users (lets say at a dinner party) can use Yatse (or any other Kodi remote for that matter) to browse the Kodi music library on their phone, and can add items to the current playlist on the headless pc. The only BIG downside is that Kodi needs to scan the Emby music library the first time, which takes up 50 hours (large library) (if all goes well). Smaller downside it the lack of the great "instant mix" in the kodi addon. Is there a possibility to add controller support for a headless-pc like this natively in ET? Much love for Emby! Luke 37046
Yes you can use one of our mobile apps to control an instance of theater. The tricky part though is logging in. That's not something that can be done headless at this point.
jellelle 3
I have Emby Theatre installed and running on pc. How can I use the Emby app on android to control the pc?
Guest asrequested
Use the cast feature, and select Theater.
jellelle 3
When trying to cast, I only see"my device" on the android App. Firewall on PC is off. ET is running. Same network. Edited March 17, 2018 by jellelle
Guest asrequested
You have to be logged into Theater as the same user in the mobile app, and make sure that you've allowed that use to have remote control.
Luke 37046
It could be a different user depending on those settings.
Guest asrequested
Yeah, but as he had no options at all, I figured I'd suggest the basics, first. I was just playing around with controlling a user, and I found a loop hole. I have a parental limitation set, for this user. When controlling them from an app and logged in as me, on their UI the rating is obeyed (i.e. doesn't show titles above that rating). As expected. But obviously, my UI shows everything. If I select what is hidden from them, it will show up on their UI and I can play it for them. Is that known/by design, or a bug?
jellelle 3
Thanks for the feedback, but there are some problems with casting: The current playlist isn't visible on the phone. If "allow remote control of shared devices" is selected, you can play content on all other devices too. If disabled, every guest should use the same account for this to work. Seems too much of a hassle. Using the Emby for Kodi still seems the best way to do this then (guests connect to Kodi over IP, and everybody has control over it) Edited March 17, 2018 by jellelle
Luke 37046
The current playlist isn't visible on the phone. This will be added in a future update, thanks.
