External Subtitles wont work with STRM

The problem appeared after the latest 3.3.1.5 update, before this update external subs were working with strm files.

Now even if you download one, it will still no show it at all, and sometimes instead of displaying the external subtitle it will display the strm embedded default sub.

I have tried this in the web app, emby theater, smart tv and its the exact same situation.

You have the server log attached

What do you mean no show? It can't be selected? Or it is selected but doesn't show?

Only in webapp I said, which they can update. Just like all other online Emby config files that are loaded by the Emby apps, without updating the app itself, to fix issues.

It works in web app, you can test this way:

Create a new Test library, place a couple of strm with matching srt in it. Play those couple of strm's to let Emby probe media info. Back out of Test library, so that it refreshes the media info and go back in Test library. Before play, select srt to play with and now it should work in webapp.

To make it clear, the webapp is the page you land on by pressing the "Emby Web App" button on top of every forum page here.

So don't confuse this with http://localhost:8096/web/home.html or whatever your local Emby server address is. Those two can be different, regarding functionality and format support.

I tried the daddy's home example in Chrome. The external subs are working fine for me on the first try.

Did u place the srt and strm in the same folder? Did u try on windows server/linux server? Can u also try on emby theater?

Yes same folder. I was able to reproduce some issues in Theater. It's resolved for the next update to the app. thanks.

That's was already mentioned multiple times.....

From post #39 and up here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/49752-api-allow-duration-to-be-supplied-for-strm-files-to-allow-resume/page-2&do=findComment&comment=556198 and https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/57098-297-subtitle-issues-srt-strm-library/

Sometimes it could be handy that you read effectively what users are already saying multiple times on forum @@Luke

I know you guys are busy fixing all things on different platforms, but sometimes it could be done more efficiently, so users don't have to repeat themselves.

ok, so after many tests i finally got it to work @@Luke , the problem is this only works if you allow transcoding, if you uncheck this box it will not work no matter what you try.

the problem is by using strm with passthrough thats exactly what i wanted to avoid...transcoding

Maybe you guys can find a way for subs to work without "Allow video playback that requires transcoding without re-encoding" enabled

It just depends on the subtitle format and the app you're using. Again it's not necessarily a bug to be fixed. If you provide the information requested in how to report a media playback issue, than i can provide a more detailed answer. Thanks.

Ok @@Luke u can try with the strm files and subs i sent u a while ago.

With that 4 tick enabled subs are working on webapp and emby theater but not on emby for samsung ks7500, but it transcodes.

Without that tick enabled no external subs working on any app.

The subs are all srt files placed in the same folder as strm.
