Radio Feature

Just a thing I would like added, maybe others would also.  A radio feature on a separate app that would stream like pandora randomly selecting songs based on type.  I don't like setting up playlists since they play in order every time.  Something random and super fast to start up and use when im in the car. All the audio streaming options for PLEX Emby and others suck for audio handling.  Half the time I start the emby app to play music on my phone it just shows a black screen so I give up and go back to pandora.  The fewer buttons the better.  There may be ways of doing what I want with the current setup but it seems way to complicated as is and it could be a chance for emby to step past plex on cool feature design.

Hi.  Have you tried our "Instant Mix" feature?

I think the "instant mix" feature would really need a proper algorithm implemented to compete with Pandore, currently it only seems to shuffle based on genre.

No, never heard of it and it doesnt show up in in my "music" section.  The way the music section is set up is great for archiving music but sucks to actually use.  That is why pandora, spotify, amazon music and so on are not set up the "plex way".  I am not even saying that the music section is bad.  What im trying to explain is that you should make a new radio style section that makes people wanna use it.

Well, obviously, we don't have access to the kind of data that Pandora has (because they spent millions producing it) :) so our algorithm can only be as good as the data.  So, yes, as far as that type of functionality goes we will never be able to compete completely with a service like that.

I found it when I opened up an album.  Shouldn't that be in the main section of the music section?  Never knew it existed since I dont use the music section normally.  The algorithm is not what im talking about, its the interface.  Just use whatever you have now even if its based on genre.  Its how you interact with it that im talking about.  More and more head units are run on android these days and the player sucks

The instant mix feature is cool and works fine mostly, ive been playing around with it.  Its the getting there part that sucks.  Open the app, scroll to the last My Media section.  Select music, select a song or artist, select instant mix, then skip to a song I want to hear.  Thats all good when im on my computer but on my phone when I plug it into my car the last thing I wanna fiddle with is my phone for half a minute.  Basically just an app that bypasses all that.  Have it open up to a simple genre list and start playing.  Back, Play/pause and Next buttons are all you need.

Thanks, I only want to use my emby more and more.  You guys seem to be the only software company that wants to improve user experience and seems to get better ever year.

daronthomas Another thing you can try setting Dlna with Emby and use an app like BubbleUpnp(or any dlnba/upn player) to stream so you avoid using the Emby mobile while driving.  Once the songs are  in the Bubble's playlisty you can shuffle in here too.

If you go that way, you might want to install the Bubble server so upnp works when you are not athome. It is very easy to setup.

These are all good suggestions to try to get you closer to what you want for now but we have discussed the possibility of creating light-weight, single-purpose apps for things like music and Live TV so this is something that may come to fruition at some point.

Thanks!
