Rew452 13
I recently added a Qnap TVS-873-16g and 28tb of drive space to my network and as a long time user of Emby was confused with whether I can even run Emby server on it. It has a AMD processor instead of ARM.. My intentions was to replace my older Windows server with something a little more expandable, compact and reliable. The ARM based Qnap seemed to have the horsepower to this but could not find out if it will run Emby, I have setup Plex which certainly seems lacking compared, but seems to work. So will it run Emby and which version? Qnap does not list Emby as a app. I know how to load a external qnap package but Emby download page only says "ARM Coming Soon". Some help please....... Thanks Rew
PenkethBoy 2063
You can download the Stable server 3.3.0.0 for x64 - which your AMD processor supports from the first post in this thread https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/51334-new-qnap-package-for-testing/ Works great on my Intel 853A so your new NAS should have no problem. Rew452 13
Thanks, will give it a try in a bit. Right now I am transferring library from my old server. Emby and Plex can co-exit on the same server, Right? Thanks again Rew
PenkethBoy 2063
yes - but why would you want to?
Rew452 13
Not so much that I wanted to but I loaded Plex when it at first appeared Emby would not work on my new NAS. Any idea how to remove Plex safely? Rew
PenkethBoy 2063
remove it via the app centre on your NAS as you would any other package
Rew452 13
Qreat! Thanks so much for your help. Though I have had a TS-251 for a few years really never needed to remove a app. Rew

Rew452 13
Just a quick post, It all seems to work very well. Took a break from transferring files and loaded the Emby 3.300 app and it just worked. Watched a couple of movies via Shield ATV on my Vizio P75 and Denon. Picture looked really good and sound was spot-on Atmos and DTS worked great. Thanks Rew

phi303 11
I know this thread is old but maybe someone will see it. I just got a TS-873 with the AMD RX-421ND quad-core 8GB version. I was thinking of moving emby from my winx PC over to it. Are there any issues with transcoding 4K HDR? Any issues with multiple users transcoding 1080? Will the stock CPU have enough horsepower do this on its own or do I need to get a dedicated GPU? Sorry, one last question, I'm new to QNAP, will I have to download a specific version of Emby or just grab the one that's available in the NAS's manager? pcamargo 0
I think you mean the TVS 873, right? I have found the CPU not to be capable of proper transcoding, but I stuck a P400 and it works like a charm!

pcamargo 0
Exactly. The P400 has been working like a charm (qts 4.4 and latest NVidia drivers)
