Subtitle problem on Apple TV

I have the Apple TV 4K with the latest OS and Emby version. Recently Emby has begun skipping subtitles.

For example, assume in a working player the three passages below (A, B, and C) would be displayed consecutively, one at a time:

A – "The weather outside is lovely isn't it?"

B"Why yes it is. It wasn't so lovely yesterday"

C"No, no it wasn't"

When playing the video in Emby on Apple TV:

A is spoken and A is displayed

B is spoken but A remains on screen

C is spoken and C is displayed.

In the example above B is never displayed. It doesn't always fail to be displayed – if there is a long enough silence between A and B, B will appear. This problem began in the last month or so. This is consistent across a number of movies and not a problem in the Emby web player.

All of my tests were done using Direct Play mp4 files (h264/avc1, AAC/mp4a) and SRT subtitles.

Are the subtitles internal or external?  Do they appear and are selectable within the Apple player interface (the swipe down menu during playback)?

External in an .srt file.

Yes.

In this file the screen (15) below appears:

Why do hens lay eggs

of different sizes?

The next 3 screens (16, 17, 18) do not appear, instead screen (15) remains.

It's not you, mon ami.

These are two
perfectly good oeufs.

CHIEF INSPECTOR: Mr. Poirot...

The next screen to appear is (19):

I've got three religions

bent on riot.

Luke - any chance the number formatting in that SRT (using European ',' instead of '.') is mucking up the timings when converted to json...?

That fixed it, which is strange because this has happened with more than one video over several restarts. I guess eventually the app reaches a state where this problem appears and the cure is a restart. Thanks.
