Group TV shows into collections?

So there's an option to group a collection of movies into a single entry, so you can have just one entry for, say, Harry Potter, or Lord of the Rings, or Alien. Most of my collection is anime, and one of the things Japan likes to do is make each season it's own series. For instance there's Bakemonogatari, followed by Monogatari Second Season, followed by Tsukimonogatari, and then Owarimonogatari. As you can see, they're not even remotely close to each other alphabetically. Can we have a setting to group these together, possibly with some way to set them in order, and on a per library basis so as not to mess with other libraries (or even a per collection basis? dunno how hard that would be).

Hi, you can create collections from tv shows but there currently is no option to group them in the main series list.

I would like to see this feature. Grouping TV Shows into collections would be very helpful for me. For example, grouping all the Star Trek series into a collection on the main list would be great.

I just checked and I could use this as well to simplify: Battlestar Galactica, Cosmos, CSI, Dallas, Doctor Who, The Flash, Hawaii Five 0/O, Highlander, Law & Order, Naked and Afraid, NCIS, The Odd Couple, Penn & Teller, Spartacus, Star Trek, The Twilight Zone

I didn't realize how many Series icons could be removed this way!

I two would like to see this happen. I know you can create collection now, but I don't want them in the same area as the movie collection I have.

You can already include almost anything in a collection. It can have TV Shows, Movies, IPTV links, music, etc. I see them as automatically created playlists.

Sometimes you might want to actually group a movie and a tv series. Some movies are part of the series.

One way to split collections, would be that when a collection is displayed, it would create different sections, like with favorites today. So if a collection is made only of movie, it will show in the movies section, and if it contains tv shows in that section. If it has mixed content, it could have its own section.

In order to automate, we need a source of data. Where can we find that some series are related to add them to a collection?

True but collections only display under movies.  TV collections support would require a collection of TV shows to show in that view instead.  Right now collections are effectively movie-specific.

No, only their display in the main list of items (in lieu of the individual items) is specific to movies.  All other aspects of them support TV.

Not to be nitpicky but the collections feature, as implemented today, is utterly useless for TV shows.  Collections of TV shows only show in the Collections view, which renders that view even more useless IMO since it would then be a mix of media types.  The shows you group into a collection still show in the TV view but their collection does not.

I like the idea of TV collections.  It would need to work like movie collections though for me to benefit.  That means giving me the option to group shows into collections in the TV view.

I was thinking that this wouldn't be any use to me - but now you start this list - I realise this would be useful actually so +1 from me on this!

I probably should've read more of this forum before I posted this:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/62312-watching-multiple-shows-in-broadcast-order/

But yeah, consider this a +1 on this request as well.  Would be useful to keep Anime series together, for sure, but I think it is even more useful for multiple shows in the same universe which have crossover storylines, like the NCIS family of shows, or the ArrowVerse shows where the happenings in one show frequently cross into another.  I always watch those two series in broadcast order...would be a wonderful thing if Emby could set that up for me in a usable way.  Neither collections nor playlists (as they exist now) seem to do what I want them to do.

Thanks,

I am also interested in this. So +1.

Users should have the option to search for metadata and pictures on thetvdb and other sites, as at the moment the only option is themoviedb.

As an example I am trying to combine all transformers cartoon series and the cartoon movie. The description and poster are from the movies from last years. So no go.

From a TV metadata/image collection perspective it will all be custom as no provider has that information.

Hadn't seen the group into collections function under TV libraries, that's excellent!
