Thought I would go back and try again with movie playback with the XBOX ONE.  No issues with 1080p flicks.  Tried watching my 4K rip of The Meg.  (We love Shark flics)  It direct played but world freeze up.  I would hot the back button, click the resume and it went right back where it stopped.  Mush have done it 8 times or so.

Attaching the server log to help.  PLEASE FIX THIS Microsoft and/or Emby.  Getting real close to getting a ROKU Ultra.

One more log to review.

Not that i dont share your passion for getting the xbox one to work. Now for the roku for playing 4k content you will most undoubtedly hit unsupported audio codecs which will cause transcoding. Based on my experience the with emby 4k only one that really works is windows based htpc.

I can start a new thread if needed but a few pages ago #90? I had logs and confirmed transcoding of video while only the audio was in need of transcoding. Since transcoding 4k video is pretty impossbile it makes the movies unplayable. I really need to get this fixed as our 4k collection is quiet large and can't play any of them on the xbox for almost a year over all emby versions. I'm currently testing again on Emby 4.0.1.0 and still have this issue.

I realize after looking at the logs again but on this 3rd server I built this week it doesn't have the directplay uri. Direct stream shouldn't cause video to transcode but I can test with directplay when I get back tonight. Full logs below.

The problem is we are running into the limitations of the stock Xbox video player and we need to get a custom player into the app like we have on other platforms. It is something that we are planning on doing.

So how is this working now onthe Xbx1? I'm a plex users and 4K HDR is a buffering mess but it does actually display 4k HDR the few times it works. I take it Emby is not any better at playing 4K HDR than Plex?

I have given up on using the XBOX ONE and yes its still a mess with PLEX on the XBOX too.  I use an Amazon 4K stick with the LAN adapter.

I would rather have the XBOX as it has a gig LAN and it could go back to being my one system to go to.

Yea I use my Xbox X with hdmi-in and still use it as a true single source for all my media content and gaming. I do not want to have to split functions into other devices. Holding out hope something down the line fixes these issues. I use Plex now but was curious how Emby was working so it seems not any better than Plex for 4k HDR.

Is any one here on the Xbox alpha ring?  I am no longer, but there was an alpha release a week ago that looks promising if the issue with Emby is similar to that of Plex.  Expected to go live in April

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2019/03/13/new-preview-alpha-and-beta-ring-1904-build-3-13-19/

Plex App
Users will no longer encounter an issue when playing/streaming 4K content with the Plex App.

Great, it may only be only the alpha rings have the fix right now.  Note sure.  It should get to the lower rings before April though.

I'm on the alpha ring and that update just made things worse. DTS MA 4k video crashes right to the home screen and even previously working AC3 audio buffers. Now TrueHD audio encoded videos transcode to AAC which is causing audio dropouts and buffering every 15 seconds. It's much worse now and MS seem to think it's fixed. Real nightmare

4K HDR & SDR directplays with AC3 codec but no audio comes out. Also even though Emby Theatre direct plays 4K HDR I don’t see an HDR message on my tv.

Also hoping for an Emby 4K HDR solution on XB1X, attempting to play via Emby Theatre or DNLA straight to the native video app just triggers transcoding which my little home server as no hope of being able to do. If playing files via Ember for Emby the video is fine but no audio.  :(

Any update to when Emby will support 4k HDR on the Xbox? I'm really wanting to dump Plex as their 4k HDR solution on the Xbox is a buffering mess and their support won;t even talk to us.

It's still an issue of some features not being made available to third party apps.

Has MS given you guys any ETA as to when this will happen? How does Plex get around it? Plex is able to do 4k HDR it's just they have some issues with the IP stack or something where 4k HDR streams will just randomly go in a buffer loop and during that no network traffic is seen.

Guys, save yourself the aggravation and just get another device for 4k playback.  I bought a Firestick 4k with the LAN adapter and have not looked back.  I WANTED my Xbox to be the one device for all media and games but I doubt it's going to happen.  (Its been how long waiting on this?)  Save the XBOX for games and maybe DVD / Blu-Ray playback.

BTW, the VLC app for Xbox seems to work as dlna client. No art work and it's all file browsing.

Not exactly the best solution, but yeah I get ya. I went over to plex, plugins are crap and the only 1 I want does not work but it's free and plays 4k. Emby was much better with remote streaming, probably to do with all the ports and hacks needed to get it working behind my reverse proxy.

Would much rather pay Emby but no point if half my media does not play.

Just use plex addon for kodi. It solves all problems.

That's like taking 10 billion steps backwards, I absolutely hate that piece of shit. Jeff bezos could not afford to pay me to use that steaming pile of trash.

It's your choice of course. But it makes my xbox work like an nvidia shield. It can directly play anything you throw at it without having to transcode.
