Hi

Running Emby Theater desktop on Windows PC, version 2.9.6.

When I start Emby Theater in full screen mode it just loads a black screen, nothing happens just a black screen filling the screen. If I double click inside the black screen Emby Theater will revert to a normal window but is missing the items at the bottom such as logo, rating etc.

If I close and restart as a normal screen size then Emby Theater starts as expected.

I have tried uninstalling with remove all traces and reinstalling but the same thing happens.

Log file attached. I cannot see an option for debug log file, if there is an option for this please explain how to enable it and I will repost.

How can I get Emby Theater to open correctly in full screen mode?

Many thanks

Thanks Luke,

Uninstalled version 2.9.6 with remove all traces. Downloaded the old 2.7.7 setup file. Ran that and have the same problem.

Sequence of events are as follows:

1) Navigate to emby theater system folder and run Emby Theater

2) program starts in normal window with all items visible

3) maximise the window - Emby Theater window maximises but the information at the bottom disappears, logo, ratings etc

4) close the maximised window

5) Navigate to emby theater system folder and run Emby Theater

6) Emby Theater starts full screen with a black screen

So it is not a version issue but looks like something odd on my HTPC. Any ideas?

The link above is to an old thread and the setup link pulls down an old version 2.7.7

Is there a link to the latest test build I can try? (It's late now for me so will test tomorrow)

Hello -

@@Luke I'm having the same (similar) problems as GhostRider. I'm running Windows 10 64-bit and 2.9.6 Emby Theater. I'm running 3.2.70.0 Emby server but this has been going on now for at least 2 previous server versions. For me, it seems as if this particular problem happens whenever I launch Emby Theater directly into full home screen mode. I get a blank dark screen. I think the data is there but not displayed because I'm able to run the mouse pointer along the dark screen and get it to detect the hidden movie posters on the home screen. If I'm careful, I can double click on these areas and get Emby Theater to open to the movie detailed screen but in a normal sized window.

I've also can double click on the dark full screen and get it to change into a normalized screen where the home screen data immediately appears. OR I can take the mouse pointer while on the dark full screen, grab the upper screen edge just about 2 inches from the upper right hand window corner and as soon as I start to drag the top screen edge down, all the home screen data appears. if I close Emby Theater while in the normal screen where the data is present and re-launch Emby Theater, the data appears in the normal sized window. I can recreate this problem almost every time but not always.

I've tried downloading and reinstalling the Emby Theater client many times. That said, I have a lot of multimedia apps running on this workstation that have been static for awhile and Emby Theater co-existed with before...

I've also seen the issue with the Windows "minimize" "enlarge" and "close" buttons missing on the Emby Theater home screen. These occurred on other Windows 10 Emby Theater clients that use TVs as monitors. The only way I've found to close this window is to right click on that windows taskbar tab and select the Close Window on Emby's Window tab pulldown or by doing CTRLl+ALT+DEL method.

I'm running the Monitor mode display setting, Horizontal option for TV Mode Home Screen, and the Very Dark Theme for the Client with the Dark Screen problem. For most of my Emby Theater clients, I use TVs as monitors. They are set for TV Mode in Emby. All Windows 10 HTPCs are set for the "Use Desktop Mode" option under the Windows 10 Tablet setting.

Other than Window 10, I have a new Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet that seems to run just fine.

I haven't tried the mpv test file yet because I use an external player on my Emby Theater clients since the playback volume, pan and scan control works easier with my wireless keyboard and mouse in my HTPC environments than the default Emby player.

Hopes this helps..

Hi,

I tried the link but this pulls down 2.9.6 which is the same as the current download fron the main web site.

It does not have an installer, do you just unzip and run the main executable?

Summary of a quick test:

1) black screen problem does not happen - starts full screen OK

2) swapping between full screen and normal window the items at the bottom: logo, rating etc all still disappear

Interested to understand why running standalone as opposed to an install has fixed the black screen issue

The UI changes are independent of versioning. The test build has changes to the window. We're testing it and reporting any issues we have.

@@Luke,

I've tried the Emby Test file on two different HTPCs with the same following consistent results:

- The test software eliminates the Black Full Screen problem for me.

- I'm getting the items at the bottom: logo, rating etc. on the Home screen after immediately launching Emby Theater and before selecting anything. See 1.

- The Emby Theater Window Normalize/ Maximize icon (middle upper right hand corner) is broken. It does nothing for me. Because Emby Theater is launching directly into full screen and because Normalize/ Maximize icon doesn't work for me, I can't test the Emby Theater Normal Window mode.

- The Emby Theater Minimize Window to task bar and close Emby window icons work. I lose the items at the bottom: logo, rating etc. if I attempt to select either the minimize or the Normalize/ maximize buttons. See 2.

- If I select any of the movie posters within that folder to go to the movie's detailed screen (Note the out of place movie rating square, see 3) and return back to the Home Screen - the items at the bottom: logo, rating etc. reappear for the movie that I selected. See 4. (I didn't pay attention to this previously so don't know if it is working correctly - no movie name appears within the featured movie window when you return to the home page).

- If I select another media folder on the home page - I lose the items at the bottom: logo, rating etc. again but if I go into a detailed view again within that media folder and return to the home page, the items at the bottom: logo, rating etc. also consistently reappear.

Hope that helps...

Regards..

I remembered I had a black screen problem before.

The solution then was to  remove the comments sign from //app.disableHardwareAcceleration(); in the Windows section of the main.js file

Just tried that and this causes Emby Theatre test version to crash when you close the window. I get the standard Windows error dialog message Electron has stopped working. There are other errors using this config, if it helps I can go into the details.

If I comment out that line again, start Emby Theater test version select all movies, pick any movie browse and then click the back arrow twice to get to the main page the items at the bottom like logo and rating for the slide show movie have all disappeared.

Happy to try another test build.

I then tried downloading the production Emby Theater 2.9.6, removed the comment from //app.disableHardwareAcceleration() and this version nolonger has the black screen start issue. It does still have the disappearing Logo, ratings info from the main screen.

You have selected something, or rather, the spotlight item is automatically selected. No problem here.

When the selected poster loses focus, the context information at the bottom disappears, so no problem here.

You'll need to make sure that Windows transparency effects are enabled, supported by your GPU, and haven't' crashed. if this is windows 7 it's called Aero, otherwise its' called DWM now.

I checked my Start > Settings > Personalization > Colors and Transparency Effects is on. No sign of any DWM errors in the event log.

I'll have to have a closer look at win aero tweaker, looks interesting.

I have decided to treat my HTPC to a new graphics card: an Nvidia 1030 fanless, low profile card. I'll try putting the comments back into the JS file after I have installed it. Hopefully it will arrive on Saturday.

Pleased to report that my Nvidia 1030 graphics card has arrived, been installed and the problem of Emby Theater starting as a black screen has gone away.

Still having problems with logo and ratings disappearing when using back button to get back to the main screen.
