blue-wizard 2
I'm trying to get rid of some Artists who only made appearances on songs by other artists. I removed them from the metadata for the songs they appeared on, and I re-scanned my library after doing that, but these artists still appear in my Artist section. I found them in /var/lib/emby/metadata/artists and I tried deleting them from there too, but that didn't work either. How do I delete these artists? Luke 37060
Hi, try running a library scan. it should clean out artists that are no longer used. thanks.
blue-wizard 2
Unfortunately that didn't work. Here's an example. I am trying to remove the artist 4ize, who was previously listed on MF DOOM's MM... FOOD album. Currently, 4ize is not listed because I removed it from the metadata. I performed a library scan but they persist in the Artists section. Here is a system log for the scan that I just performed: 2018-01-19 07:19:57.254 Info TaskManager: Executing Scan media library 2018-01-19 07:19:57.256 Info HttpServer: HTTP Response 204 to 192.168.1.2. Luke 37060
if they persist in the artist section then you must have songs or an album that is tagged with that artist, and it appears that way from the screenshot above.
blue-wizard 2
Where do you see that in the screenshots above? Regardless, with more searching I found that 4ize was still listed in the <artist></artist> section in album.nfo for that particular album. However, I can't find any way to edit this this metadata through the web interface. There are no Artist or Album Artist fields when I go to edit the metadata for an album, which I assume is how a user would go about making those changes... What you would do is update the embedded metadata within the audio files and then Emby will react to that on the next library scan.
blue-wizard 2
OK, well now we're back to square one. As I explained in my previous posts: I updated the embedded metadata within the audio files, and when I performed a scan it did not remove the artist. Unless I am missing something, the screenshots above show that 4ize was not associated with the audio files for that album and yet 4ize was listed under the Artists section and associated with that album. The issue seems to be that the album.nfo file is not getting properly updated during the library scan, because even after a library scan there was an <artist>4ize</artist> entry. I had to remove this entry manually from the album.nfo file, and then perform a library scan to get the desired outcome. Can you please explain what I was doing wrong, or provide instruction on how I can document this issue to your satisfaction? Luke 37060
i'm guessing 4ize is probably tagged in those songs as an album artist. i would check on that. generally speaking, everything is derived from the data in the audio files, so i would always go straight to the source and edit them directly. blue-wizard 2
If 4ize was tagged as an Album Artist, then they would be listed in the Album Artist section, but they were not. They were only listed in the Artist section. So you're just going to assume this is user error on my part? I'm honestly not sure what additional proof you need that it's not. Luke 37060
@@blue-wizard, when you click on 4ize, you see an album and songs, right? or just an album?
blue-wizard 2
Just an album -- the one in the screenshot.
Luke 37060
what if you refresh metadata on the album?
blue-wizard 2
I tried refreshing metadata on the album, on the library, on the songs. None of that worked. The artist was still listed in the album.nfo file. The only thing that eventually did work was manually editing the album.nfo file before refreshing. Luke 37060
Ok I'll do some testing on that. Thanks.
