Dynamic tuner selection?

I just ran into an issue where i tried to watch live tv via chrome and was unable to do so. I went through the serverwmc log and it looks like it was trying to use a tuner that was currently locked via my main HTPC. Please see my setup listed below. Does server WMC support the dynamic sharing that silicondust offers. This is the first time that i ran into this issue but i guess it was just luck of the draw that serverwmc offered up a tuner that was being used by another computer. The failed attempt was to watch a channel that is only available via the HRHR prime units. I then tried to tune to a QAM only channel and had no issue. I dont know if this would have been an issue if the MB3 computer was pc that locked the tuner. Maybe its that serverwmc is not aware of what other computers may be watching as i never see any indication of that under the MB3 tuner listing in the live tv config page.

FIOS

2 HDHR original for QAM (4 tuners)

2 HRHR prime for Cablecard (6 tuners)

1 WMC PC used primarily for MB3

1 WMC PS used for main tv viewing

Thanks in advance

That is a lot of tuners.  It does nook like it is not behaving correctly in this situation.  Can you post the log that that you speak of, or at least the section where it tried to grab a tuner that was being use by another computer?  Also, you can see the tuner status in the Live TV section of the dashboard.  What does it show for the 'Program'  and 'Client' status when the other computer has the tuner (i.e. the situation you describe above)?

Doesnt state anything specific that the tuner was in use by another client. but i did verify the issue by using the HDmonitor app found here and the device web page.

Also when a mb3 client is watching tv the mb3 tuner status page reflects what channel is being watched and the tuner being used. However when my main htpc is watching tv through the WMC interface it is not shown in mb3 tuner status page.

I should add for clarity that serverwmc and mb3 are installed on the same computer. My main htpc is strictly a wmc machine (with mbc of coarse)

So the problem is the computer with swmc/mbs can't tell the other computer with wmc is tying up one of your 10 tuners.  I'm not surprised that this is a problem.  This is beyond the scope of what we designed to and I currently don't have the hardware/software to investigate it.  Sorry about that.

No worries i totally get it. I can understand that swmc is not able to detect that another computer may have locked onto a tuner.

Would it be possible to have swmc just try another tuner if it isnt able to grab hold of one the first go around? If not i can totally live with this limitation by either just taking my chances on tuners being locked or possibly dedicating tuners to the swmc/mb3 server.

Thanks for all your efforts

I had the same thought this morning, that I could put in an option to cycle through tuners if this occurs (kind of stop gap solution) I will look into it.
