IPTV M3U Tuner - Hide channels

Is there a way within emby to hide channels when using M3U tuner?    Before you say, "just remove them from the m3u file" I can't... the m3u is dynamic and stored on the providers server.    It would be nice, if there isn't a way already, to be able to hide channels..  For example if my provider has a bunch of VOD channels that I don't want displayed in emby,  Or if there are porn channels I don't want in emby, I could just check "hide" for each channel within emby?

I would like to make a suggestion: in the part of user registry could put the option to register the m3u in it individually.

Gostaria de dar uma sugestão: na parte de cadastro de usuario poderia colocar a opção de cadastrar o m3u nele idividualmente.

Just wanted to say myself that this would be a great feature. Emby would be perfect after this. Thanks for this great media solution

You can use tags and parental controls, however, it would likely take some time depending on how many channels you want to exclude.

how do you do it, with the tags and parental control I mean

Edit the channel and add tag. I used undesirable. Then go to parental controls and block content with the tag you used (in my case "undesirable")

This doesn't really help - People have been asking for this feature for years and no response just 'we'll add it in future release'.  Come on Emby we pay for this feature make it happen.

Also just want you to know that you should take a look at MyIPTV Player on windows.  I can have 2600 channels (and an epg for all them upload in 10 seconds tops).  In Emby it takes an hour - no joke to download the EPG - you have got something wrong there for sure.  Now before you come back and say why do I want 2600 channels well obviously I don't (I actually only want about 10 of them).  Its a speed comparison for you to see how slow your code is.  Also and more importantly MyIPTV Player takes just 3 seconds from selecting the channel in the guide to  showing it on screen...in Emby it takes 11 seconds.  All on Windows 10, using exactly the same URLS.  Just making you aware that you should look at this feature as this is your money maker.  Make it better and you'll get more money.

Hi,

This is handled in the Next Gen TV project currently underway.  But until that is released there are two ways to accomplish this at present.  One is the use of tags as already mentioned.  The second method is to setup and use xTeVe.  You would then run your M3U list through this.  xTeVe allows you to reordered, filter, renumber, mark channels enabled/disabled, etc..  That allows you to pull fresh channels whenever you want but only get the channels you are interested in for use in Emby.

Is there a way when using multiple TV Guide Data Providers to unmap a channel from one and use it in another.  For example if I use DirecTV Guide and I'm using a channel number that matches DirecTV it auto maps it, I don't want it to auto map it as I want that channel to use the same channel number but different guide data.  Since DirecTV guide is listed before I cant remove it, is there a way to unmap that channel from that guide provider and use it for a provider further down list?

Is there a way to reorder "sort" the TV Guide Data Provider list instead of deleting and recreating?  If I want to move a tuner guide up to the top how do I do that?

It's going to auto map when you add the guide but after it's done you can remap channels your own way.  Not ideal but you can remap them.

The next version of Live TV currently in development handles this much, much better!

I cant remap the channels in a guide that is listed below this guide with the same number using a different tuner, because it looks like this list takes priority from the top down.  I want to unmap a channel and not have it map at all in the guide, one option in the map channels list should be DO NOT MAP CHANNEL

There is currently no easy way to unmap a channel.

If you tell us what timezone you're in and what channel this is maybe we can find another guide with that channel you could use to map it.

If have a work around, was just wondering if you can unmap that is all.  I just created 2 channel lists, removed the channels from that list that I don't want going to a particular guide, and added them into the 2nd list and pointed it to a different guide there.  Could have been much easier to just unmap the channel.

Yes, that's one way.  That's why I said "no easy way" but not "no way".  It's not idea but does work.

I know many people are looking forward to the new version for little things like this that will be non-issue in the near future.

So how far along are we with this feature.. Seems a like a pretty simple fix "select all, add tag, done"

Im not going to single tag 500 channels.. I have a life

Sounds like you're just blindly loading a huge list of channels?

Have you thought of using xTeVe to filter down your IPTV to the channels you actually care about and get rid of all the junk channels?

Yes I understand.  Many of us are in the same situation as you.  I've got a couple of IPTV providers, couple of cable tuners and couple of OTA tuners so I understand.  What I did was setup the TAGS I wanted to use for "hiding".  So for example if a family member didn't want to see sports channels I could use "TVSports" to mark all sports channels in Emby with that tag.  So one day I'd go through and tag all sports channels.  If I had premium channels that a kid shouldn't get access to because of the late night content I would use a "TVPremium" tag for those channels and tag them a different day. Adult channels from IPTV provider get tagged "TVAdult", etc...  You can also use "TVInfomercial", "TVShopping", "TVSpanish" or anything else like that to eliminate certain types of channels you don't want or don't want others to see.

As I create new tags I add the tag to parental filtering for anyone who shouldn't see those tagged channels. I added every tag to my own parental filtering so as I tag channels my own list while editing them gets smaller and smaller making it easier and easier to do.  Knocking out sports, adult and premium channels shortened the list considerably for me.

I didn't allow any channels without an EPG to make it into Emby as they become more or less useless (unless it's a PPV IPTV or similar). So no VOD channels in my TV section but if you can script or program at all the VOD channels can be used quite well via STRM files added to your movie or tv show section.

Once done tagging it makes it easy to customize the list of channels for users.  Your brother could get adult, sports and premium channels while his wife doesn't want the adult or sports but does want the shopping and premium channels, etc...

Like many other things in life how good it works is dependent on the amount of effort you put into the setup and configuration of it.
