ok, please bear with me.

I am going to provide logs, at end, as well as inline images...

I noticed a problem with my EMBY server tonight (Version 3.2.60.0 on windows 10)

no recent windows updates, I believe the server updated a week or so ago, but problem only seemed to occur

after a reboot tonight.

first, got a error message when playing a file

(see log #1, emby-nogo-cm-5x13.log      ** FILE 1**

that's the log just under the main log (I guess the decoder file)

I did verify that there is a file there, (as shown below here...)

Next I tried another episode  Criminal minds  emby-nogo-cm-5-14emby-nogo-cm-5x14.log.log   ** FILE 2**

didn't snap a picture -- same results as previous message.

Next is the emby-nogo.log    ** FILE 3**

at this time i rebooted pc and logged in again.

next I tried a file in a different directory and for some reason,emby-ok-tds-2017-120.log also worked.  ** FILE 4**

I then looked in my logs file, and found something from last week I know (also) worked

 (last week tonight emby-ok-lwt-fron 01-03-18.log  ** FILE 5 **

and last, I included the main-emby-01-03-18-0000.log  ** FILE 6**

and finally my most current log-file from main-emby-01-06-18-2140.log

so, I hope I posted enough info to figure out why some stuff isn't playing again,

let me know if I need to add more info, and what.

thanks again

hi @@markie, so if i understand correctly, you're saying that after rebooting these files are still not playing, but others are?

hi @@markie, so if i understand correctly, you're saying that after rebooting these files are still not playing, but others are?

sorry for the delay,

yes I verified that the files in the criminal minds season 5 were mkv files, they would NOT play in emby, got the message above.

The files in Xfiles season 6 were also mkv files, and play fine...

@@markie can you provide a new problem log file with the latest release? thanks !

Yes, will post shortly, but I have automatic updates, so don't think it will be a major change

the latest are attached,

1 good place (works), log

2 criminal minds (ng) log

3 general log file

I did notice the following.,

in my sci-fi directory, the directory was defined in emby as M:\media\tv\scifi

whereas in the cop-shows it was defined as \\server\copshows

I changed that reference to also be on the M:\  drive

but it still didnt work after restarting emby server

emby02-11-18-goodplace.ok-log.txt

emby02-11-18-goodplace.ok-log.txt

emby-02-11-18-general-log.txt

OK: Update,

it's working now.   Didn't try since the above update last week.

Since I changed the reference to be to the M: drive  instead of the network share, it works fine.

I also tested and found the original \\server\copshows directory had been deleted, and once I re-installed it  it also worked fine!

Also worked after I did a (windows: net share  command to list what directories were shared, and discovered it wasn't shared for some reason)

so:

if Your media is set up to play from a network drive

AND

you lose that network drive for some reason, EMBY give you a (sigh, useless) error message that says:

(as pictured at start of thread):  no compatible streams  are available.  (in my case MKV)

Had it provided a simple, "no access to device" error message it would have been more helpful and easier to solve.

Also, Luke:  is there a place that documents the contents of the "last file played" log file?

I'd be happy to try and write something up to help contribute better understanding of how to troubleshoot errors like I was having...

Proposed Snippet:

Trying to troubleshoot a video  or format that wont play?

1) in the library, look at how the directory is called.  Is it called by drive name, or by network (sharename)?

1a) is the filename (directory) spelled correctly?

1b) does the filename or directory exist, and have valid content in it?

2) if it's called by sharename, check your network to make sure the share name actually is seen on your network, and exists.

hope these steps may help others in the future!

Glad you got it sorted but I would switch back to the share names (if you haven't already).  Mapped drives will cause similar frustrations at some point down the road.

Thanks.
