leerph 4
Running emby server and using windows media center. When watching an mkv I cannot get the subtitles to play within the media center interface. The mkv has both embedded subtitles and I even tried adding an external srt file in the same folder but that didn't work either. LAV filters were set to show forced but I tried setting it to show all and that didn't work either. However, if I watch the same movie using the browser interface or if I watch it on my android app the subs show up just fine. Is there some setting that maybe needs to be toggled on or off inside the media center interface to get the subs to show up? Thanks for any help. Luke 37007
Hi, this can be tricky because not only is third party software involved (LAV), but it can also be affected by other software you've installed as well as your system configuration. Have you considered trying our new app, Emby Theater? You can learn more about that here: https://emby.media/emby-theater.html @@Teddy, do you have any advice for this situation? Thanks ! leerph 4
Thanks for the reply. I like theater but I'm still using media center b/c I have spent so much time getting my custom remote set up to run all my home theater stuff. I can add that I can play the file using MPC-HC which also uses LAv filters and the subtitles come up fine there as well. I also watch these mkv's on my xbox 360 which I use as an extender and so I think I am stuck with media center to do that as well since emby theater isn't supported on xbox 360 from what I have read. Any other ideas on how to get it working properly? Thanks.
ebr 14903
Search in this forum where I moved the post. It has been a long time but I think you need some other 3rd party software installed to get subs in mkvs working in WMC.
Teddy 51
leerph , for the subject of subtitles I've been using the Shark codecs for years with the "Media Control" plugin for WMC. In order for that plugin to work well you will have to use the fddshow codecs for all formats of avi, mkv, etc and Lav codec only for x265 codec. The advantage of the plugin is that from the remote control (if you use any) you can change the audio language with a touch and activate-deactivate the subtitles ,even jump chapters if the mkv has them It is the best option I have found for years. dansblackcat 37
I was never able to get subtitles to work using LAV filters. Like Teddy above, I also use Shark codecs and my subtitles work with pretty much the default settings. Many people recommend and have success with LAV, I just wasn't able to get it working for me.
