As stated, I am new to this and struggling.

I setup  m3u tuner in emby. It is a paid service and the test for th last few days worked fairly well.

Now, I am trying to figure out how to setup the TV guide, link it to the m3u tuner and also how to record streams.

And another question. When it comes to streaming PTV; what -if any- is the advantage of a box like MAG256 over emby?

Any help would be very, but very welcome.

It was not very successful......

I setup m3u tuner and schedules direct and let it retrieve TV guide information. Most of the channels were not recognize and all others I tested are wrongly assigned.

Pics emby01..03 are an example:

  • I opened Live TV > Programs and chose NCIS: LA (emby1)
  • A message shows up that I need emby premiere for automated series recording (emby 2).
I have emby premiere and it is setup.
  • When clicking on NCIS:LA it shows a tennis match on FOX SPorts (emby 3)

emby 4: channel ID 142 is CNN. But it was assined logo and program of a Spanish broadcaster.

Any idea what went wrong?

My IPTV provider has its own XMLTV URL from which the guide is retrieved. Schedules Direct would not work. Check the knowledgbase of your IPTV provider how to set up the guide. They may not have emby instructions, but I found all the pieces I needed for emby in the kodi instructions. You are looking for 2 URLs, one for the m3u file and a second for the guide.

THank you for the tip. That put me on the right track.

Can you recommend a good channel editor? I'd like to strip all channels of the xml file I am not interested in

Actually you should instead remove them from the m3u source. In the near future you'll be able to do this inside emby.

well thats not quite true. it does work with Schedules Direct its just that Emby has no way to automatically match the epg to channels leaving the user to do it and with no sorting or filtering and over 1000 channels it is near impossible in Emby.

But if you have the skills you can do this outside of emby. edit, yeah i thought i recognized your name. you were given access to the db that was developed to do this, you could have asked further questions if you were stuck. the problem with the supplier xml url is that you don't get more than 24hours epg which is no use for a DVR.

Agreed, technically possible, practically unfeasible. I too have the problem that my IPTV provider only provides a 24 h guide (maybe we use the same provider). So I have to load the guide every day, and without the ability to schedule guide downloads separately, the Schedules Direct guide for my HD Homeruns as well.

I can help you set this up with Schedules Direct if you are interested. SD provides a much more robust experience than xmltv. You get proper descriptions, images and rerun info with SD. Send me a PM if you need help.

Didn't know where else to put this question,    I have been remapping iptv channels to get everything right, but now i'm noticing the channel logos are not updating even if i refreshe guide data.  Any  way to force these to re-grab from schedules direct?

You have to delete them first.

Delete what?  The channel?  how do I assign a EPG provider then go in and remap channels to EPG?

So my iptv has a list of channels I create a m3u tuner, as soon as i create an EPG provider it starts assigning channel logos, I then start to remap. But because there are already channel logos assigned to the wrong channels, Im stuck.  How can I refresh just the channel logos without having to remap everything all over again?

That screen you were just on - the detail for the channel.

Hit "..." Edit Images and delete it.

Then refresh and see if it gets the new one.

Last resort, just give it the one you want in the edit images dialog.

Ok, got another one. Any idea why my live TV stuff has no meta data?    mainly pictures of any kind.

I really, really want Emby to work with IPTV (I bought a Lifetime Subscription to Emby) but I'm afraid it's just not quite ready yet. Despite all the manual editing of m3u playlists and Guide problems, channels routinely just stop playing or won't load at all with no errors...(signal just drops) but when I test my IPTV on Perfect Player, although the interface is dog ugly, the channels play flawlessly all day long. I am waiting for Emby to Play IPTV so I can get rid of Players like PP.

To answer a question above, you can just use notepad ++ to edit your m3u channels but most of us have 4-5000 channels and this is just not a feasible option. If your IPTV provider gave you a log-in, just plop that in a web browser and it spits out your m3u file. (same one you put into Emby under m3u.)

Why ask us as opposed to asking your guide data?
