new to Emby - selecting supported audio track by default

Hello,

I've been a Plex user for a while and decided it was time to migrate to Emby, as Emby has some extra features that convinced me it was worth a try.

My content is

- Bluray rips (untouched h264 + untouched audio + aac stereo added)

- Low bitrate, 720p H264/AAC version of all of them.

- 4k UHD rips (HEVC untouched, audio untouched)

For all my movies, my intent is to have a "Bluray" version and a "Remote" version (and 4k version for the few movies that can be ripped).

The first thing I did was disabling transcoding to only allow direct play. My server being a Synology I don't have much processing power for transcoding, and I already have my script that converts everything to a remote friendly file. (another reason being that the WebOS LG apps always try remuxing while it's not necessary, causing stuttering)

My question is this: On the Emby Theater app (windows store version, not desktop) is there a way to either hide audio tracks that aren't supported (TrueHD, DTS...) to only show AAC like Netflix would do?

If not, is it possible to detect which track is best suited for the app, and play that one by default?

On the web browser version, it seems that it's what it's doing. I get the sound working with transcoding (and converting) disabled, so I'm guessing it's picking up AAC as a fallback.

Thanks for you help! It's a great app otherwise :)

hi @@Deihnyx, welcome. Currently we select the audio track based on your user audio preferences, which you can set by clicking your user icon in the top right -> audio settings.

The idea of instead choosing based on what is most efficient though is something we are thinking about offering in a future update. Thanks !

Thank you for your answer,

In Audio Settings however, I can only select the default language, it doesn't say anything about the audio type (DTS, AC3, AAC etc) to play by default.

If that's part of a future update it'll be great, thanks for your help :)

Hi @@Deihnyx

Take a look at Ember. It's 7Illusion's UWP app for emby. On a per client basis you can specify whether to bitstream DTS and TrueHD.  My htpc attached to an AV receiver supports those, but my Surface doesn't. The app will also check if you have a compatible stream as well as one that is not. I generally rip an AC3 track in addition to default audio if it is DTS or TrueHD. AC3 is supported on all Windows platforms.

So on the HTPC I get direct play for all video. The Surface will get either Direct play if there is AC3 track available or transcode (copy the video, convert DTS,etc to AC3.

It is great to have options!! a really nice thing about emby is that it supports lots of different clients
