DS1511+ Constant Disk Activity - DLNA Issue?

Hi Guys,

Been a long time supporter of Media Browser/Emby and have noticed an issue of late since i've updated my drives in my NAS to 6TB Seagate Ironwolfs.  I've current got a DS1511+ with 4 of those and 1 x 2TB Seagate green drive which has been in the system for many successful years.

I could hear the disks constantly getting hammered now, with the same tone (like what you would experience when a drive goes bad).  I think i've only just noticed this now as the Ironwolf's are quite a bit louder than the older greens.  To find out what was causing this unnecessary disk activity I started stopping packages on my NAS until I've discovered as soon as I stop the Emby package, it goes away and the disk paging stops.  I've had a brief look at the logs to see what was going on and there is this continual record with what appears to be mono and DLNA.  As you can see, this error occurs literally every second and there are thousands of these repeats in the log.

I've stopped the package indefinitely until i can get this worked out as i don't want to unnecessarily kill my new drives needlessly.

Could anyone shed any light to this?

Cheers,

Rob

I am in the same boat. It also prevents hibernate.

I've got DS918+ and 4 WD reds if that helps.

This log only covers 5 minutes of time and there's also activity from what looks like the web app in here. How are you determining that there is a problem?

Attached is a longer log.  Web app is listed as that's what i was viewing the server from, on my local machine.  I'm determining there is still a problem from all the errors in the log and the audible marching of the disks that doesn't stop unless i stop the Emby package in DSM.

The errors in the log are resolved for the next release. maybe that is the reason because it is causing lots of updates to the log file.

Same here. Latest build on my DS216+II. As soon i start watching. The Harddisk start working and make noise insane. then stopps for a view minutes and then again and so on. Just direkt playing a movie to my ATV4k, no transcoding.

I put a picture of the DSM Ressource Monitor in. Volume goes nuts to 98 % Harddrive up to 60%.

Please solve this issue. its annoing noise all the time and cant be good for the harddrives.

Hi. I seem to be having a similar problem on an Xpenology system as Emby is preventing disks going to sleep. Already deactivated DLNA with no luck. I am using the latest Emby server version. Should we just wait for the next release?

Thanks

My DS 212J+ Has had the same problem ever since I got Emby. Have confirmed that when I shut down Emby service, no more problem - my DS drives hibernate when not in use. But when Emby is running the disk lights are constantly going. Please help. I am at the current level of Emby and willing to provide debug logs or whatever is needed. Thanks!

Can you please attach the emby server log? You can learn how to do that here:

Thanks.

Hi Luke, thanks for the speedy reply. I actually uninstalled two plugins that were recommended to be uninstalled in other threads. The DNLA plugin did not appear to be the culprit. However, when I uninstalled Portmapper, now my Synology is hibernating appropriately. I think my next step is to reinstall DNLA (I don't need it but it will be interesting to see) and see if the symptoms come back; and then reinstall Portmapper and provide you a log of perhaps an hour of logging (my hibernation is set to 15 min) if hibernation continues to be prevented. I should be able to do that this weekend. Thanks again.
