Fire TV Stick + SSL not working -> cannot connect

Its been a couple weeks now, and she's not super tech proficient, but I think I can get her to try via a browser on the stick, thats a good idea.

It was in fact a new server (a better machne) running as Emby 2 with ssl required and my router's 8920 port forwarded to this box. (the old one was still there at 8096 but with alot of features disabled, basically to display a message to go to Connect New Server and use same domain but with port 8920 to connect to Emby2.  And everyone else was able to do this with no problem. My sister just doesn't use it often really, but she tried and it doesn't really give her an error, or say that it is rejected or invalid... I think it just sat for a bit then returned to the server name/port screen.... and since it still connected her to the old machine with 8096 I just went into my router and forwarded 8096 to the new box... which still didnt work because I had to changed the ssl required to preferred on the server... then it worked connected to the new box.  SO, at that point it seemed really to be an SSL issue... but after looking at the link @Capt.Insano included above, it could be a simple as it needing the https in front of the address, I may have overlooked that (since I hadn't found friction with it on other platforms) and me doing this over the phone and not physically "seeing" it and thinking "lets try this"... plus it was 2am at the time.  So if it just that I am gonna feel like a moron, but will try that first then the other things you recommended and hopefully get there..

Thanks for the insights, again.

FireTV stick Gen 2's

Ok so I tried getting her to connect by adding the httpS:// to the address, and it worked (at least I thought) but as soon as soon as I went into the server and noticed it was still on "ssl preferred, not reqired" and I changed it, she was still logged in and watching something so I thought we had success... anyway, once she left emby and came back it wouldn't work. So, I had to set the server back to "preferred".

I don't know why your firesticks 2nd gen work, but turned out hers is a 4k, I didn't think the 4k was out when she got hers last prime day, but they obviously were.

You are talking about Firesticks connected over the internet right?  I assume that is the case.. my firesticks work fine one lan.

Yes - over the internet - it's my parents FireStick definitely 2nd Gen as it was a hand-me-down from me (haha) - but works perfectly using my remote server over https (only).

To note -  mine is in the UK, I don't *think* that should make any different but it's possible the 'lets-encrypt' cert chain is different in your locale ?

Not sure if you have answered this already - but in the same location/wifi, does it work with a different client with https only ? ie is it 100% the FireTV stick. ?

In your first response you mentioned trying it from a browser on the firestick, which I will do, but it works from iOS from her phone and ipad... haven't gotten her to try "casting" it to the firestick, but I am curious about that now... I am going to try to make it over to her place in the next couple of days... I'll report whatever I find.
