linuxabuser 1
The Emby client for Chrome won't stream this file at all. Plays fine when streaming with VLC over the LAN. Luke 36876
Hi there @@linuxabuser, please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
linuxabuser 1
Just read up on that, thanks. I've updated the original post with the ffmpeg log.
Luke 36876
And the emby server log, as well as your description of what did happen? thanks.
linuxabuser 1
Just attached that too. Sorry, first post. Anyway, I browsed to the Movies library, clicked on Allied, then clicked Play. I watched Task Manager, and it did buffer at around 150mbps, so it definitely attempted to stream. Then, the playback hung there with the background as sidebars and there was no more network activity. I had to close the tab. The stream started around 19:54 on 11-12-2017. Hopefully that will help dissect the giant 21MB log a bit.
Luke 36876
What you may want to try is installing from the website on top of your existing installation and see if that makes a difference, thanks.

Mmm yeah, so I did that. Now emby doesn't start.
Luke 36876
Just try running the regular tray icon app so that we can look at this issue. The process for windows services has changed: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50992-how-to-run-emby-server-as-a-windows-service/
linuxabuser 1
I tried NSSM too, different error. I don't really know what the deal is. I've been using this successfully since the MediaBrowser days. Event viewer entries - Service Emby DotNet Server received START control, which will be handled. Luke 36876
In other words run it from the start menu without using a windows service.
linuxabuser 1
In other words run it from the start menu without using a windows service. When I click the executable, nothing happens. The fact that it doesn't have an icon is new too. It always used to populate. Path to exe - C:\Users\Home\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\system\EmbyServer.exe It does indeed exist. Luke 36876
When you click that executable there isn't a whole lot that happens. Now you can just open the emby web app.
linuxabuser 1
I understand It at least used to have a pop-over window that says "Loading". I obviously tried launching the web browser, but I get a "refused to connect", which is due to nothing listening on port 8096. PS C:\Users\Home> netstat -ano | findstr 8096 Returns nothing. Luke 36876
I see from a previous log you're on windows 7 right? So when you double click that executable nothing visible occurs other than the emby server tray icon appearing near the clock. Now you can just use your web browser to run the web app. In windows 8+ we use windows notification services to display a little "Welcome to Emby Server" banner. Solution Luke 36876 Posted November 18, 2017 Solution Share Posted November 18, 2017 I understand It at least used to have a pop-over window that says "Loading". I obviously tried launching the web browser, but I get a "refused to connect", which is due to nothing listening on port 8096. PS C:\Users\Home> netstat -ano | findstr 8096 Returns nothing. If the server is crashing, then make sure to run windows updates and ensure that windows is fully up to date.
linuxabuser 1
Well I'll be damned. After a lot of Windows patching, Emby Server now starts (service included). Allied now plays also, so I'm going to go ahead and close this thread.
Luke 36876
Thanks. It appears that for our new .NET Core-based server, if you're running Windows 7 then you need all windows updates installed or the server will just crash. So we'll have to get that documented on the website. Thanks.
