Desktop ver 2.9.3 for Win7 x64

I was previously running the theater for desktop fine on x86 win7 OS, but I've since built a new OS (Win7 x64). Now the desktop app freezes and maxes out my CPU.

 

I have all the MS Vis C++ 2008-2015 (x64 & x86) redistrib's as well as  NET 4.6.2 and service pack 1 installed on this new OS

 

Is there a x64 specific version?  Maybe I missing a necessary component?

There is yes, so you should install it rather than copying from your x86 machine.

Is this the best one to use from GitHub? just unzip and run the theater.exe?

No, just use the installer on the website

that's the installer that was giving me issues - from the website.  I didn't use the installer as once used with x86 machine.  I downloaded it again.

 

Please advise.

the installer is what you should be using. I've not heard of it maxing out a CPU. Have you made sure that Windows and all drivers are fully up to date?

So I installed/uninstalled it twice.  Everything is updated on my machine.  Another app was spiking my CPU, but Emby theater was freezing no matter what.

I downloaded the x64.zip from GitHub and its stable - running Emby.Theater.exe. 

 

I did see this is the log for the desktop version that was giving me problems:

x64 = yes

x64 process = no

It sounds coincidental and related to what else is going on with your machine because those two actions you performed will result in the same outcome.
