Replacing Asus Beebox... looking at Zotac

I've spoke with their support about which device is capable of playing 4k, h265 hevc, and dts-hd ma. Their reply was the Zotac CI327. Does anyone have this device and is it capable of playing these formats? I will use Emby Theatre to play the files. Thanks everyone!

Is there a reason that you are looking at the Zotac?  Do you just use this as a streaming device?

If you are going to spend that kind of $, have you considered looking at the Nvidia Shield TV?

I believe it checks all your boxes and there has just been a price drop (sans game controller) to compete with Apple TV.

It's what I use, and I couldn't be happier.

I didn't bother looking because of price.  Looked for a buddy that uses emby as well and the prices were more than what I wanted to spend.  Do you use the Kodi front end or do you use the Emby app for Shield?  Can you use Emby theater on it?

Isn't the bare Zotac box nearly the price of the new Shield TV?

There is an Android TV app that I use.  I'm currently on the beta track and it works great.

I think there may be plans for ET for Android TV, but I don't think it's ready for production yet.  Don't quote me on that. ETA: I can't find it... maybe I imagined that?  ETA2: Wait... I found it... it's "alpha" not "beta".  My search was bad.  Emby Theater for Android (alpha).

I specifically switched to Emby to get rid of Kodi as I was using 3 different applications (Plex, TVHeadend, Kodi) to get the job done.  It's much easier to just keep up with one ecosystem.  Emby is much more "spouse friendly" IMHO.  The 10ft interface of the Android App works quite well.

The Shield TV is really the best of both worlds as it can run either Kodi or the Android TV app and to some extent Emby Theater with the link @BAIGaInTI provided above. The Emby Theater app may not support all the same features as the Android TV app like HD audio, refreshrate switching, and have the same direct play support. I haven't tested it myself yet so I can't confirm. If you really want the Emby Theater UI you are pretty much stuck with running Emby Theater on Windows at this point but there is a promising Kodi skin in development that seems to look very much like Emby Theater.

What are your must have requirements?

265 hevc, dts-HD ma, and 4k resolution are my requirements. I really want the 265 to save on space.

Sorry I meant that I looked a while back and the price then was out of my range. They are definitely in the same range now.

I like the looks of the android app. It looks similar to theater with some differences.

My wife loves Emby for the ease of use.

I would go with the Shield TV. HD audio passthrough and HDMI issues are still plaguing the Intel Apollo Lake CPUs. I think you would be much happier in the end with the Shield TV whether you decide to run the Android TV app or Kodi. It just works.

Not to mention you can now get the Shield TV without the controller
