Xbox One Client Playback Issues

So for hours last night my server worked great and I was watching on my xbox for a good number of hours, however, today I am experiencing playback issues where the media will pause on the screen, but according to the server dashboard the media is still playing. If I quit the app (home scree, select, quit) and then reopen the app it is back on the "frozen" screen. I can rewind to where playback started and it works fine but if I try pressing back (B button) the entire app becomes unresponsive. I have tried multiple files and file types and have been experiencing the same thing across the board. This is all occurring on Direct Streams btw and I am able to play on other devices without resetting the server or touching anything on the back end so it seems this is affecting only the Xbox client. I looked around a bit on the forums but did not see anything exactly like this.

This is the exact issue I am experiencing. @@Luke is there some chance that restarting his computer fixed the problem that might help you to diagnose my situation?  Just a shot in the dark here.

It sounds like something that is more random in nature, and it just happened to be resolved after restarting his machine.

He is explaining exactly hownit happens to me as well. Is it possible a fresh install of the server could rectify it? I was hoping to avoid having to do that. Being I would lose user profiles and watched items and things like that.

I give up.  I did a completely fresh install on a different machine in my house just to see if it was a server issue.  With the new server I still get the exact same freezing problem.  ugh...

I run into this issue form time to time.  I can tell you one thing I've come across is the way the Xbox one works if you don't click start on the controller and go to quit on an application it will run idle in the background.  So if you played netflix and Destiny 2 even though you're not actively playing they still have some of the RAM held hostage.  Then if you pop emby and start streaming a video it's too much.  I've had mixed success with going to settings and doing a full restart.  You can tell the difference because a full restart takes longer and gives you xbox load screen.  These things never fully shutdown unless you do this they just hibernate when you hit the power button.

What I've been doing lately is if emby theater freezes I quit the app and jump straight to DLNA.  It's not nearly as pretty but its easy to navigate.

Indeed this has been an issue. Ember will play the media file but the theater will pause/freeze.

Sadly I don't think it's a RAM issue. This doesn't just happen on Xbox. I tested on the pc versions of both ember and emby and the freeze is happening there too. Also the freezes are happening in the exact same spot in most movies. The freezes only happen when something is being transposed or audio us being remixed. Otherwise if a file is direct playing there are no issues.

Glad to finally see I am not the only one having this problem. Hopefully we can find a solution. I was about to convert all if my files so they direct play to work around this problem.

@@Scott310 what are the specs of your PC you're using for testing and your server?  I've had issues with the xbox version regularly but the PC version has rarely given me any issues.  Maybe 3-4 times over the last 6 months.

There are two versions of the theater available. One uses Microsoft foundation and the other uses madvr.

I find the one built in mircosoft foundation will run well on my low powered PCs/stream boxes, laptops etc.

I don't experience any freezing.

It's just that darned Xbox one (which is built on the ms foundation) which has been the culprit for quite some time now.

I find any stream which it tries to play, be it transcoded or direct stream will eventually freeze.

That being said, i took the opportunity to read through the github (it's quite a large read) I have yet to see where any of the playback requests would cause issue.

To be honest the entire theater engine is a masterpiece.

Built with vanella js, and a really interesting backend.

Fingers crossed, if it is a ram issue it can be resolved.

Is it possible that ms has changed something in their OS during the creators update, which some how inhibits the playback of ripped media?

Could that be a thing?

It must be cause this Issue started immediately after the creators update and has been happening ever since.  Everything worked perfectly before that.

An update to the Xbox app is rolling out. Microsoft has resolved a number of playback related issues in the Fall Creators update, and our new app update will take advantage of them. Make sure your Xbox One is fully up to date with all system updates.

Thanks !
