Any new update on this? Would love to see a fix. Sucks having to switch to other apps for HDR videos.

We tried a number of things in the last beta round with the app and none of them worked.  We will keep trying.

What have you tried to workaround the grey bar problem?

The solution is to set the root window transparent. This works in Plex, SPMC, MrMc and Kodi: https://github.com/x...5a7df39f3016eb8

That's exactly what I've tried (as well as every other level of visual layout) but when trying to look at something like Kodi, unfortunately, it is like looking at an orange and trying to relate it to an apple.  I imagine, once I discover the key, it will end up being simple but it is extremely difficult for me to test due to it only occurring in a certain device.  Which is why I asked this question a while back but got no response:

What is the smallest version of TV that reproduces this problem?

I believe it is on some TVs.  It just depends on the exact firmware.

Pretty sure mine is up to date as its set to auto update and updated recently. According to Sony this is the latest updated firmware (v6.6520). I can double check though when I'm home.

Any new updates on this given the new info regarding the affected video resolutions and Sony Bravia TV firmware version? Mine is on the latest firmware version. Cheers!

Hi.  Sorry I don't have any more information.  Some models of TV appear to have a fix and others don't.

Ok I wonder if those saying its fixed on thier Sony TVs are playing the problematic HDR files that have resolution less than 3840 x 2160 ? As 3840 x 2160 HDR files appear fine.

So I've been doing some testing

4K TV -

3840 x 2160 - These work fine and black bars

Less than 3840 x 2160 - These play but display grey bars

4K Films

3840 x 2160 - These work fine and black bars

Less than 3840 x 2160 - These play but display grey bars

Sorry to bug ebr - Do we have any thoughts on it being resolution specific? Do these use different overlays?

It could be.  Seems very similar to the device-specific issue on the Shield that Nvidia finally identified and fixed a while back.

Is this going to get fixed at some stage? I went to watch the Mandalorian 2160p a few days ago and it had grey bars. Couldn't watch it. Sony KD-75x8500e

Don't want to be that person, but I switched over to Plex, and watched the exact same video, and it had black bars so I watched it there.

It is a device-specific issue and we have tried lots of different tactics to work around it.  It was fixed on some TVs by a firmware update on those TVs.

Unfortunately, we don't have the exact hardware that this occurs on here at Emby test central so that makes it even harder for us to find any sort of workaround.

We are still trying...

Happy to be a test subject if you want to sling me things to try. I would say I could attempt to tweak code but closed source now.

Can one of you point me towards the exact model of TV that has this issue?

Its still happening on mine as well my Sony X9000f. Seems to be a few different Sony models at least. Would be great to get it fixed as its really annoying having to load up other apps for certain files. I ended up using Kodi which works fine for the videos that have grey bars but obviously would love it to work all in Emby.
